I think leaving comps on the main board with a link in the regulars board to the comp would be the best way that way so no one will miss it because they don't use the regulars board and you can still keep an eye on the regulars board to make sure you haven't let any slip passed you.
  • I haven't read the whole thread yet, but it seems that I am with the majority in that I would like all comps on the main board with links posted in regs. This would suit my style of entering as they're posted, and those who enter by end date wouldn't miss out either. (Been comping a little while on the quiet!)

If people are concerned that links won't be sent, perhaps the OP could make it clear they've done it when they post? If they haven't perhaps another more experienced comper could do it and post that they have, like when they do a merge request?

  • I am another thats uses the regular board. And wouldnt like it to go, thats what it was set up in the first place for so that all REGULAR comps had a home.

By Regular I mean, all daily, weekly and monthly comps.

Everything else that had a definite end date went on the main board.

TBH I am not sure what all the fuss is about??
  • I used to see comps with "(Daily)" after the E: 12/12 on the title. Would that help too?

  • It's okay to say "well just add a new daily into your own bookmarks when it's posted" but what happens if you go away for two weeks, come back, and four new dailies are now on page 212 of the main board? You will miss out on days and days of entries, if not completely.

I have a personal interest in this, admittedly ;) I'm not just being philanthropic! I often miss days/weeks at a time when I'm ill so having the regulars board is a lovely little safety net.

Just to add fuel to the fire - can I make a suggestion for an additon to the regular board if we do keep it?

Basically, I comp from the first page of new posts and then comp by end date to catch any I have missed. The one thing I HATE is finding a comp that ends in two days etc where it is something like "write a short story" or "play the game as many times as you wish - each play is an entry". By the time I reach it, I don't have long enough to write my story/play the game enough times etc.

Sooooooo, if there are competitions which require effort (creative, repetitive or otherwise) then maybe they could have a separate sticky/thread to allow people the time to enter them.

I won a fantastic prize with La Senza in their short story writing competition but only because I happened to catch the comp on the day it was posted. If I'd found it a day in advance of the end date, I might not have won.

Everybody seems to be saying what they would prefer, but having had a quick glance through the thread, I think that only Beffffff (With the possible exception of Amilucky, who thinks that we first need an initial poll of whether you use the regulars board) has really tried to answer MSE Andrea's original question. Apologies to anyone else that has that I have missed. I think that regardless of what we would all prefer, we need to concentrate more on examples of how the poll should be worded. Can anyone think of how Beffffff's wording (post #36) can be improved or needs to be changed? Otherwise this thread is going to become too unwieldy for Andrea to understand. As a starting point, we need a simple to understand poll. I think that we should either agree amongst ourselves that we want a poll as Amilucky suggested that is just a simple yes or no to do you use the regulars board or agree to a poll worded as Beffffff suggests or put forward another option to vote on.

Incidentally, I am happy to go with whatever is decided. I only ever have time to enter a very small proportion of everything that is posted anyway.

If you're asking what options to put on a poll I think there only needs to be:

    1) Post regular comps in the regulars board and non regular comps in the main board.
    2) Post all comps in main board then if it's a regular move it to regulars with a trace that it has been moved and add a link to the sticky thread
    3) Post all comps in main board and add a link to the sticky thread if it's a regular.

Then all that's needed is a definition of regular (would this need a poll too?) if so, suggestions:
    1) Same URL, same prize, no new answers needed
    2) Same URL, prize can vary, no new answers needed
    3) Same URL, prize can vary, new answers needed occasionally (keep unlocked for new answers)
    4) Same company (e.g. TAB), different URL, new answers/links needed occasionally (keep unlocked for new links/answers)
(I'm sure that list can be improved upon?)

And we would need a process for noting a comp was a regular without everyone wasting their time checking the sticky. Maybe if the OP knows it's a regular they can say added to daily (or whatever) sticky. If the OP doesn't say that and someone else spots it is a regular they can say this is a daily, added to the sticky??
    Hi,

    "
So here's what we want to do:

Run a poll - as Glad and others suggested."

yes, i think we need to run a poll..

    1. Do you use the regulars board on a regular basis ie: every day/week/month.
    2. Would you prefer the monthly comps only to be posted on the main board.
    3. Should all comps be posted on the main board with a link to be posted in Regulars.
    4. Should we just keep the Daily Regular thread & not the other two.

    .

hiya, the problem lies in again 'what is a regular' ?

    as beffffff says quite rightly..

"" Then all that's needed is a definition of regular (would this need a poll too?) if so, suggestions:
    1) Same URL, same prize, no new answers needed

(I'm sure that list can be improved upon?)"""

it would help if we had clarification of what exactly a 'regular' is,
my personnel opinion is that a regular comp is..

""1) Same URL, same prize, no new answers needed""

so therefore if it's a new prize, ending date it should be posted on main board as a new comp,

but MSE Andrea isn't asking this, the question is

So here's what we want to do:

Run a poll - as Glad and others suggested.
    Keep you guys happy!

But to do that I need to make head or tale of the different options you want polled.

So, can someone (or more) please post in as few words as possible the different alternatives you'd like taken so I can get them into my foggy head - I have a virus at the moment and struggling a bit!

No bias or opinions please - just the different alternative solutions you'd like polled please?

    Thank you!

I use the regulars LIST (Dailies/weeklies/monthlies) but I NEVER read all the posts in the regulars board as I trawl through the main board then try to catch ones I've missed by end date. I have noticed that I have been entering far fewer comps recently even though I haven't changed the way I comp.

    =====================================================================
    My suggestion would be:

    1. All the comps to go on the main board with a link to it on the dailies/weeklies/monthlies sticky threads.

    2. NO single thread for e.g. all ITV comps, take a break comps, etc as I really can't follow them and the ones currently done that way I rarely enter and I don't suppose I am the only one.

This system (1) worked very well for the advents and most people seemed able to find and enter with this system

So the poll questions could be:

Do you use regulars section or main section

link posted in dailes/weeklies/monthlies stickies: yes or no

do we want a single thread for comps from the same company adding different comps on when they appear: yes or no

    ======================================================================
I am very grateful to all the posters and BG's for the amount of contibutions they make and I think mse would be the poorer for the regular posters to stop doing the admirable jobs they have been doing for a considerable time.

It is very good of them to actually share the comps they find. I have been a long time lurker and have been a member for a few years now and the boards, until fairly recently, have been happy kind places.

  • Have had a chance to read through now.
    How about...
    Would you prefer all comps
    a) posted on the main board with a link is sent to a sticky in regulars? (A note should be added to make sure the link's been sent. That way, if it's forgotten, other more experienced compers could help out.)
    b) Any comp that can be entered more than once removed from the main board and put in regs with a re-direct until the end date?
    c) A mixture of the two - which is what seems to be happening now.

Whatever is decided needs to apply to all comps, whether they're daily / weekly / monthly.

  • I'm sure people don't mind comps being bumped with a new answer. Never saw anyone complaining about the Company ones or the Daily Mail cottage ones.

    .

I would say all 4 would fall under the heading of a REGUALR comp??

And if they are kept unlocked, then any new answers, if needed, can be added?
