Sorry, this is going tobe a long one!
Lolalemon - How about a woodland animals theme? That way you can incorporate all your owl idea and pad it out a bit with things like squirrels, badgers, butterflies etc. Think Animals of Farthing Wood if you grew up in the 90s like me! :rotfl:Perhaps you could bring some conservation ideas into it or build a bird feeder. You could make stuffed animals or paint butterflies fairly easily and every child loves an excuse to play sleeping lions! Think of all the animal related nursery rhymes you could sing! You could read Percy the Park Keeper stories - DD highly recommends One Snowy Night, esepcially if you do the "voices" and "actions!" :rotfl:

Foodwise perhaps it's just a case of using your imagination - like cutting sandwiches into rabbit shapes and surrounding them with salad to make grass. You could use it as a platform to do the "where does food come from?" chat and perhaps get them to "make" a fruit salad.

I found a blog with a tutorial for making paper 'cups' and they had fruit in them that all been balled with a melon baller, so i might do that too (these planters are going to be wel used i think! hehehe)
I like the idea of the animals of farthing wood (i sort of remember that, but i wasnt big on telly back then - self confessed book worm here!) in the latest issue of Let's Get Crafting - issue 28- they have snails to crochet onto mug warmers and i have a pattern for butterflys, so i may just go with the animals of the woodlands and have it as 'If you go down to the woods today your sure of a big party!' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s8jB2ZgT4M remember this anyone?)

The place im booking does birdhouse making days, but most of the kids are going to be 5 and under, so a bit too advanced for most.

I also found a blog with a tutorial (or just a pic) on making cone shaped cups, but they looked like corn kernals, looks good (think it was with the owl puppet blog)

Thinking now that i wont do the finger puppets, but make them bigger for some cream eggs, and do owl shaped egg cosies and some with butterflys and snails and frogs and birds (if i can) - i have a lot of wool to work my way through! it will be good to work my way through the stash, as i really want to buy new nice lovely cottons, but i am trying really really hard not to buy any till i get rid of current lot lol- dont think i can be that disciplined!

Adore those slippers - is it an online pattern or did you buy it?

Would love to make some for Grandson.

its froma blog written by a French person, i dont have the link, but here is the knitted pattern from memory

    start with 6 stitches (A),
    knit for 22 rows
add 10 stitches to each side
    knit for 10 row (B & C)

    B__C
    . |
    .A

    1 2
    | |
    | |
    ---
    A

You should have a T shape, B and C is the top edges of the T and A is the bottom where u casted on 6 stitches

take B and line up with A, take C and line up on top, sew the open seams (1, A & 2) and Voil!!

soo easy! (well would be if i could add stitches when knitting! haha!)

i cant rememebr how many rows i crochetted, but every pair i done, i did do different sizes, i generally started with 6 and single crochet (DC for UK) for as many inches as the childs foot was, and then added between 6 and 12 chain to each side and single crochet as many rows until the edge matched the original 6, that would make the bottom of the T.

If this doesnt make sence, i can do a tutorial on my blog, (might get some more followers then, ive had none from when i started till 2 now (thank you to the 2 who have chosn to follow :))

Hope the pictures (ha!) are understandable

Lolalemon; Those baby bootees are so cute looking. Will have to make a pair for my up and coming grandbaby.
  • Angelfeathers - You sound so organised! DD's bithday parties always end in me being stressed out of my mind! I love your cheese hamper idea. I've kept my eye out for a nice cheeseboard for OH but had no luck so far.

Heh, thanks, though I don't feel that organised, since I didn't even get the party booked till yesterday! :D But yeah, I'd been saving up all year since we'd promised DS a big party this year, though tbh this is going to cost a lot more than I'd saved. I'll just take it out of next year's fund and have a small party next year.

They look great and exactly what I planned to do. So much for my 'original' idea.

I do like your halloween treats. I was planning on having a mini-Halloween party for my son and his cousins so I might do something with the sweets.

That sounds like an enormous amount of work! You're a much braver woman than I am! They are lovely ideas though :D x

It sounds like you're doing really well with it all :D I keep trying to do DDs parties at home but I always end up ready to  after an hour or so. No matter how much I plan it always goes wrong. DD was 5 in September and she still doesn't quite know what is going on so I've resolved not to put a huge amount of work into it or buy into the materialistic approach.

Happy birthday to your DD for tomorrow :j And yes, I would rub it in OHs face too! Fingers crossed he will mellow with time and you'll be able to wear him down! :D

My OH was a sceptic to begin with. He used to eye up my slowcooker with great suspicion when we moved in together 2 years ago, refused to eat leftovers and would never "make" anything. Now he's a self confessed money saving/crafting convert. I said to him last night "You know baby oil is meant to be better than shaving foam and cheaper, perhaps we should give it a try." And he said we'll buy some next time we shop! Blimey what have I done to him!

    Laura D - I love you too! :j

My mum bought DD a make your own fairy kit last Christmas from WHSmiths and supposedly aged 3 years +. I struggled with it and there's no way DD could manage to do any of it when we tried. I've been persevering with the fabric glue with it for ages but nothing worked - it all just falls off! So yesterday I gave up and got out the sewing box on it. Very pleased to have finished it at last :D I'm one of those who starts and never finishes or gets fed up of the mess and bins it! :rotfl:
    Engaged since 25/12/2009

Well I was engaged. Until we separated on 8th March :( Here's hoping that having a break will help us solve all our problems. Until then I'm a single mum on a tight budget :(

  • Afternoon Ladies, does anyone know where i can find a tutorial for fabric doorstops, and fabric owls.Id love to have a go at these.

    Many Thanks.
