After a bit of thought I’ve cobbled together what I think are the 4 most important issues to consider when out for R&R - I hope these will be of use to both the newer and more experienced R&R community – but the basic guidance on Post # 1 is invaluable to the newbie – go there first, then come back to the main forum here….

But first of all – forget the Sales of Goods Act and all the other well-intentioned legal arguments – by attempting to buy goods at Tesco that you know are wrongly priced – you are not shopping according to the ‘spirit’ of the Tesco Price Promise.

And if you were to put your hand on your heart and admit this – then the legal arguments come crashing down around you…..

But hey – we love to R&R – that’s why we are all here – well, most of us!

I used to R&R everything I could find – this can be a mistake – your profile amongst the CS staff increases.

When you spot a R&R – ask yourself ‘Is this something I really need?’ Don’t R&R for the sake of it – do you really need the wrongly priced Tesco Value Birthday card?

Dude’s Tip Number One – Only R&R items that you really, really want!

Attitude – when securing R&R quoting Section C and Paragraph 6 of the Sales of Goods Act to CS staff isn’t a good move – treat the staff how you wish to be treated – polite & calm even in the face of potential adversity - keep your profile low, not too much eye contact – you don’t want to be a memorable character because you want to come back!

Dude’s Tip Number Two – Be polite and calm– don’t demand R&R – wait and see what happens – if pushed politely point to the Price Promise.

If you go to the same store and R&R regularly you will become familiar to some CS staff – scope the store when you go in – pretend to look at newspapers or other goods whilst working out who is on duty – try to avoid CS staff who know you and have hassled you in the past – check the CS desk again before you buy in case there has been a shift change.

Try the weekends – mix it up a bit – go after 1930 and you will find different staff – Saturday evenings means you will probably get part-time CS staff - if you have the means go to different stores – if you are after groceries use Metro and Express Stores – use the Tesco web-site to find all the stores closest to you.

Dude’s Tip Number Three – Vary your shopping trip times – visit other stores if you can.

Don’t make it obvious that you are after R&R – be disciplined – if you buy a dozen mp3 players CS staff will undoubtedly know what you are all about – get a couple of items – add in other items of shopping that you need anyway – you need to look like a wronged shopper, not a freebie hunter.

The only exception to this is when you are visiting a store miles away from home, say on holiday or on business – if you know you are unlikely to be seen again for some time then you can push your luck a bit….but each to their own!

Dude’s Tip Number Four – Be disciplined and R&R only a couple of items on a shopping trip.

Anyhow these are my top four R&R tips – hope these are of help to you good Dudes.

    Take her easy,

    Duder

This week I have noticed another turn around in CS attitude to the R&R'er, It has been a dream over the past 2 weeks, but Since Weds, they seem to be back peddling again.
I have had "the offer is out of date" "It's an old offer" "It's the wrong product" quite a few times. Yesterday was a classic, new CS member, went off, got the Yellow SEL, big one, and said, "oh I'm sorry this offer is not current," I was about to give it my response, when the usual CS lady said, "No, the lady has it as a refund, don't worry about out of date offers, it's not down to the customer to see the dates" she then went on to tell me that they had given loads of refunds on wednesday, when over 60 different offers had run out and the tills/signs had not been updated! Oh how I laughed, she then went and spoilt the mood by asking for my reciept to photocopy, I obliged and said "I suppose you have to prove that the money has gone back to a genuine shopper!"

Pointing out you have been illegally overcharged again ! cannot be abusing company policy.
As it is so easy to R&R, why is it not easy for Tesco's to get its prices right.
It is hardly rocket science !
They have obviously done the sums and worked out they make more money overcharging unsuspecting customers than they do paying out on R&Rs.

To follow on from this I would like some advice. The friend that I explained the policy to had a bit of bother today. Went in did a normal shop, found an overcharge on several meat items. C/S said that they now have a disclaimer sign to prevent meat overcharges, cos 'It's cost us thousands'. It states
'Customer Information, Unit price is used as a guide only',
on an official yellow card. There was one of these on the meat dept, & the C/S bod had a job to find it. The supervisor refused the R&R, despite being told that the law states if 2 prices are shown, then the lowest must be charged. C/S proceeded to fill out a complaint form to send to H/O , on the computer after asking for my friends clubcard 'for all your personal details'. When a copy of the form was handed over the C/S had put on it 'claims repeated overcharges on meat'. Not true, that particular family shopping had overcharges. No others had been discussed.
The meat in question was chicken, breasts at £5.99 on pack, £5.98 on SEL, and £4.39 on pack, £4.23 on SEL. This particular shop seems to think that it can advertise two different prices, charge what they like & are covered by the sign they have stuck on the shelf. It has obviously been done cos they are so bad at pricing control - "We've lost thousands", and are trying to stop people using their policy to claim a legitimate R&R on meat products.
    Comments & advice please peeps

Only thing you can do is contact HO, personally I'd stick it to them with non meat items for awhile.

i would go back and ask for a copy of this sign, if its official they should no probs giving it to you....then i would toddle off to trading standards
They've got cars big as bars
    They've got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
It's no place for the old

I have seen this sign up in a shop I was in the other day, I did wonder about it at the time but seeing as I couldnt find any meat to R&R I didnt get the chance to challenge it. Will still give it a go even if I do see one of those signs!
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)
