    Felicity:

I went to Nandos my sister reckons the nandos chicken breast salad is fine. she also rates the rice and the corn ( nil butter obv!)

To be honest, a chinese takeaway is only 5- chicken oyster sauce with boiled rice.

Shame as youd have thought that soup would have been perfect! :(

Hi All, i wonder if someone can kindly look two foods up for me please? Just until i get my head round all this ! :o

Tesco light choices plain naan (per half a naan 3 weightwatchers points if that helps)

Per 100g, 245 cals , protien 7.3, fat 3.5 ,carbs 45.7 ,fibre 2.7 ,if you could put the portion size in as 140g - so i know what a whole naan is and can work out accordingly! Thank you!

Also I bought 0.1% fat free nat yog - is that free?

I accidentally bought one with fat thinking it was fat free but it's blimming not - so can someone kindly look this up for me too please? Its 1.5%

per 100g protien 5.1, carbs 6.2, fat 1.5, fibre 0 ,cals 59 100g would be fine and i can work out portion sizes myself

Ok going to post this first as my internet connection is VERY tempermental today! Then ill finish the post

    Remainder of post

I think the misuse convo is really interesting! Good to see so many perspectives.:A

I was actually thinking i was too embarassed to post up my daily food as i really am a starvo or that's how it feels:o. Looking at my food list is disgraceful in my eyes! Fruit doesn't seem to fill me, nor do veggies - so im eating fruit for eating fruits sake, hoping my body qill soon adjust. I sleep very badly so am often awake very late so am finding some days i n eed 4 main meals as I am genuinely starving. I feel very sick when i stay hungry so i have to eat. I have actually thought about going to the doctor as my appetite seems mahoosive. I don't think it's portion sizes - my dinner last night was 100g spaghetti and 2 soup ladels full of quorn/lentil bolognese so that's a damn good portion size. 4 hours later i literally was starvacious and that's when i had the noodles. I'll see how it goes anyway..... Anyone wants to comment, feel free! I seem to be constantly eating and am trying to eat fruit before meals as well.:o

Wed 12th may Extra easy (going to green from now on with occasional red day as a treat!)

    Fruit - 2 bananas,3 small orange, 2 Slice melon

Drinks - cup herbal tea x 2,small bottle diet coke , 750ml weak sugar free juice

    B - Toast HEB, 3x bacon and 1 egg and butter (2syns)

L - HM Savoury rice with veg, spinach and half a chicken fillet (0.75)

D - spaghetti and quorn chilli (all free) and cheese HEA

    Syns butter 2 , chicken 0.75 , aero 2, crisps 6.5 =11.25

    supernoodles

    Walked 40mins 1.5 miles x2 = 3 miles

OH! Made mushy pea sauce - didn't have internet so to mushy peas i added a tin of toms, 1 heaped tsp of hot curry powder and sprinkle of chilli flakes , brought to boil then simmer for 30 mins. Surprisingly, i can't stop taking mouthfuls of it straight from the pot!:p

For those who are "against" preservatives etc- i try to avoid them as much as possible and really don't want to go down the muller light route at all. I made up some yog last night with frozen berries ,and by today is all schmooshy and mixed in, so that will be my yog - will know better once someone lets me know the syns if appropriate . I do drink sugar free juice but very very weak so the water is just flavoured - that would be the only real thing i eat with preservatives in as most all else is from scratch, so I for one will be trying to make stuff of my own and avoid shop bought where possible. I haven't eaten supernoodles in almost a year so I've no idea what made me want them yesterday! It does anger me slightly that so many convenience foods are promoted in SW - but that's the nature of the beast I guess. Not everyone wants to cook frmo scratch. It would be great to see a SW HM bread recipe which people could make and use as HEB etc. Maybe one day :)

    Sorry for the essay...:o

Hey, I have to admit I am a little confused now by what has been said about the snacking. When I was reading up about SW I got the impression that if you made yourself a big portion of free curry and rice and had it in the fridge, you could go get some more out all day if you wanted to, it didn't seem to suggest no snacking.

I'm sorry if I gave the impression that you shouldn't snack at all. Of course you can, but ideally you should be snacking on superfree foods after having filling, nutritious meals. It's obvious to me that if you have say a packet of pasta n sauce for lunch you will be hungry in a couple of hours. Snacking on cake made from couscous or mock Doritos made from lasagne sheets is so plainly not what any 'normal' person would do and will have a detrimental effect on your weight loss.

What I am going to say is probably going to be seen as controversial, but it is the way I see it.

I think this is where most of us make the same mistake. It is promoted as being able to eat as much free food as you like, but obviously you can't because of consuming too many calories. If you are a lucky one and have a sense of fullness when you have eaten enough, then the diet will probably work OK. I have usually managed to lose a couple of stone at the start and then it starts to yoyo. This seems to be the same for 90% of the members of my club. I have been going on and off for over 4 years and the same people are still there, or like me, join and rejoin.

The recipe books give a menu as being free, then say it is for 4 people, so if it is free why can't one person eat it all - well, obviously because the calorie content would be too high.

Yes, the diet will work, but only if you stick to sensible size portions, eat at meal times and don't snack in between. This is why I have decided to try on my own.

I see what you're saying about syn-free recipes being for 4 people (in fact I've often thought myself that it would only do 2 of us in our house). Nevertheless, unless you eat till you truly stuffed, you will still lose weight, although probably at a slower rate. The recommendation from SW is to eat till your appetite is satisfied.

I truly believe that members lose at the beginning because they follow the plan properly while they're full of enthusiasm but later that has waned and they begin to 'tweak' and if they were being ruthlessly honest, would have to admit to not following it as they used to.

It's not necessary to only eat at mealtimes and not snack inbetween, but make your meals with lots of free and superfree foods and snack on superfree for a good rate of loss. Syns are there to take care of the unhealthy choices we make - stick to the recommended amount of syns and you'll be fine.

    Gotta agree with this.
Also some people have mentioned that cooked/tinned fruit is synned as its easier to eat large amounts compared to eating fresh fruit. Erm I can easily get through a pile of fresh satsumas or apples throughout the day:eek:. Surely that's gotta be better than reaching for the biscuit tin which is what I tend to do if I dont have enough fruit and veg indoors.

Eating 8 satsumas a day gives you far more nutritional value than eating a couple of tins of fruit and would still give a good weight loss (apart from anything else you'll be in the loo half the time, lol). You can never have too much superfree food.

I hope this helps a bit. It quite shocks me to hear of all the myths and misconceptions that abound and I'm very sad that there seems to be a lack of good Consultants. I do think though that if you're not satisfied you should either vote with your feet or complain. You pay the fee for a full service and should get what you pay for.

As an experiment, try calorie counting a full days worth of your chosen plan. Having say bacon, egg, mushrooms for breakfast, jacket potato with baked beans for lunch and a meat and veg dinner. I'm sure that you would see that it adds up to roughly 1200 to 1400 calories which is why you still lose weight. The foods promoted by SW and food optimising are ones that have great filling power with relatively few calories.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

I dont know if its a problem , eating that much. Have you considered eating later? We dont tend to eat till 9.30 we didnt always eat this late, but stretching it out a bit might not be too bad an idea- if you can stand it?

I have an excuse (!!) as I have the depo and everyone said I would put on weight but so far I havent :j and seemed to have lost quite a bit. I am eating a phenomenal amount of food though. Huge.

I would say tho if you are bothered about "being starving" especially if it makes you feel sick, personally Id be minimising the pasta and noodles, and choosing cous cous rice or potatoes/parsnips/carrots/swede.New potatoes have less carbs in than normal potatoes (*well thats what I was told on cambridge!)

Saying that what do I know! itsjust trial and error isnt it and what works for one might not work for another. ! I just know the more carbs I eat the more i NEED, and am always starving marvin after bread and pasta :(

I appreciate the input - I've never carb counted you see, so genuinely wouldn't know which carb to pick over another if that makes sense!

I try and space my meals out as best I can - will certainly give it a go, thank you :) x

I must see what you ate and how it compares to my list! I suppose really the scales will have the answer in the long run. Hopefully!

how much have you lost on SW so far Lyns? I know you said you were doubting the scales. I do feel guilty having crisps and choc but i would rather use my syns that way than in food as i feel less deprived and diety.:p

If anyone eats all day long - even free foods - they all have calories in them and if you eat too many calories then you won't be able to lose weight.

This goes against what SW tells us - the diet is not calorie counted, it is a way of life - but -this is where I don't think it works - eat too much of anything and you will be consuming more food than your body needs to exist.

I was sticking to SW 100%, would lose 1lb one week, put it on the next etc. this applies to most of my group members, and I eat virtually the same week by week, so that is why I have come to the conclusion that the only way is to cut down on quantity.

The only ones who lose weight are the ones who have just started on the diet and it is new to them.

Sorry but that's simply not true. I lost 4½ stone when I began food optimising about 7 years ago. Over the next 5 years I put on quite a lot but it was because I stopped following the plan. I started again last October and have since lost the 3 stone I put on. I know that if I continue to watch what I'm doing (having more HEs than when on plan, but still 5-15 syns) then my weight will stabilise (indeed it has done over the last couple of months).

Eating the same week after week will stop you losing weight because your body gets used to what you're fuelling it with. To keep weight coming off at a reasonable rate you need to eat a wide variety of food every day, cooking different meals as often as possible and keeping food appetising and interesting.

Hi there everyone, sorry if this question has been asked already, tried looking through the thread but couldnt find anything.

Basically, I am trying to follow the EE at home - I have done SW several times over the years and have my books from about 18 months ago so have most syns etc. But, I am totally confused as to what I REALLY can eat on EE....seems too good to be true iykwim?

So, can I eat any red/green free food anytime? So, for instance, could I eat, say Crabsticks as a snack, or do they have to be part of a meal to be free iyswim? At the moment I have just been doing it so that 1 third of the plate is Green food 1 third Red and 1 third Superfree foods and then only snacking on Mullerlights/Fruit/other Superfree stuff etc in between, but wondering if I can have some other stuff aswell?

So far today I have had

B - V Low Fat Natural Yogurt with chopped apple and banana
2 Ryvita Dark Rye (half of HEb) and free cottage cheese

    S - Fruit - Melon/Grapes

L - Coleslaw made with shredded veg and V L Fat Fromage Frais
2 Ryvita Dark Rye (other half of HEb)
Crabsticks in sauce made from V L F Fromage Frais and 1/2 tbsp Ketchup (0.5 Syns)
    Mullerlight

    S - Alpen choc fudge bar - 3 Syns

    D - 2 Bowyers 5% fat sausages - 2 Syns
    Batchelors Savoury Rice
    Veg

    So, how does that look?

And will it work?! Im terrified I will eat loads and put on - it just seems too good to be true!

Any advice will be very helpful - thanks in advance. xx

    1. Yes foods listed as FREE would suggest that you can eat as many as you want, I read it as you can eat as many as you NEED to feel comfortably full..
I was always scared of SW because of the "you can eat as much as like of these certain foods" -at the time I new that my mind set would be woohooo let me at em :o... Somehow I have managed to re-programme myself to realise that just because I "can" eat something doesn't mean "I have to" -In fact I have seen some recipes that seem huge -like a lovely looking recipe for honey glazed pork chops which allows 2x7oz pork steaks per portion:eek:-Im planning on trying the recipe but 1 pork steak is plenty...

so Im finding SW an absolute blast (remind me I said this if I flag in a few months :rotfl:)... Im still eating more than a lot of others -but mainly fruit n veg, Im also cooking something different pretty much every night -so I should be getting a really good range of my nutrients -and most importantly Im not getting bored :T I really look forward to every evening meal :j. I really do believe that if you eat the same things over and over your system sort of gets used to it (mine never knows what is coming:p)

Excellent, and that is why it's working for you. Your attitude is brilliant - long may it continue :T

When I said I eat the same week by week, I didn't mean I actually eat the same food every day etc. but the same quantities, follow the plan exactly. I prefer green days because of cholestrol problems, so I rarely had red apart from the HE.

I always use the cookbooks and try different recipes because otherwise it would get very boring.

I will work out the calories on a typical day and am sure it will be far in excess of the 1200 -1400.

As I said before, we aren't going to agree because it is working for you and not for me. I do stick to the plan, it obviously doesn't work for me. As a consultant I wouldn't expect you to agree, but there are all types of people with all types of metabolism and medical problems, so just to say to follow the plan and it will work isn't always correct.

    Zippychick...
    I worked out the :-
    naan to be 18syns
    and the yogurt 3syns

I mainly make evrything from scratch too ;) ...I don't use spray oil ..I have seen what it did to my bakewar many moons ago :rotfl:, and I don't like mullers eughhhh .. my full fat super creamy yogurts have 8syns in :obut they are worth it mmmmmmmmmmmm

I have to agree with Consultant31 - Like I said earlier Im cooking something different nearly every night (although I appretiate I have more time than most) a lot of the recipes are quite quick... at the moment my body doesn't know what is coming next :D and Im loving it....
I compare it to my BIL who as a postman does a lot of walking and biking, but now his body knows it to be normal so his Dr told him he would have to do more if he wanted to lose weight -where as if I did it I imagine I would lose loads.
I will copy a recipe over for you in a minute that I posted on the minimins site its the SW lancashire hotpot..oh my lord its stunning :j
I will go and find it...
ooohh thankyou consultant31 -just seen your reply to my earlier post :p
Its taken me years of having a wonkey view of food and the dreaded "D" word to have finally found a balance that I reckon will work for me...
