I've shopped online for years but I follow a couple of basic rules. If you are unsure of a website - go to http://www.whois.net and type the domain name into that. Unless it's private you'll get a load of details but still you'll know how long they've been around.
Second are their contact details on the website - do they look real?
Thirdly - When you go to pay does the address for payment start https://? And also have a little padlock bottom right? These are for encripted payment and I'd walk away from sites not displaying these.
Fourthly what payment processor are they using - paypal, streamline and worldpay are popular. Can you find the payment processor online and contact them before compleing purchase?
Lastly always best to use a credit card if you can as this can cover you if the transaction goes belly up.

Hi there

I would call the company owner, Paul Clayton, on the mobile phone number given in my previous post on this thread. Most people have only recently (since Friday 13th) been told that they will receive refunds, I was told yesterday by Zavvi Direct that I will receive a refund so wont be able to report on that until end of this week/start of next week.

Hi,

Thanks - I got the standard email sent through today so will just have to wait until next week to see whether we actually get the refund!

Thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura

Let us know if you do get the refund, I'm expecting to receive mine on Friday or Saturday this week I would assume yours would be by Saturday or Monday...fingers crossed till then :undecided
• I also have just emailed Dinah. Emailed Zavvi direct again asking for a refund and apparently my request has been passed to the accounts department ??? Didn't realise it was such a big company to have different departments. So once again it is more waiting to see what comes of this.
• I ordered a wii fit of zuvvi direct last week but they sent me an email and a letter explaining that they would not be in stock until the 20th June even no they had on their site limited stock available. I sent an email to the returns department and I did receive my money back last week.

I sent zuvvi direct returns department a email on the 09/06/08 requesting a refund and I received my money back on my credit card on 11/06/08.

Also I got my copy of wii fit in Argos in Northern Ireland today 18/06/08 so there most be more stock coming into the shop again.

Copy of the email which zavvi sent me:

Dear Customer,
Thank you for placing your order with Zavvi Direct. Unfortunately due to exceptional high demand for the Nintendo Wii Fit, we have now run temporarily out of stock.
Our company would like to apologise for the short delay encountered for this product but this is due to current supply shortages. Zavvi Direct guarantees that your order will be delivered within the stated 21 days.
We can confirm that your order will delivered to our warehouse on Friday 20th of June 2008 from our supplier. Please allow 4 - 5 days to receive your order from that date.

If you request to cancel your order due to the delay, please contact the accounts department and request a refund. You can contact the department on refunds@zavvi-direct.co.uk. Thank you for ordering online with Zavvi Direct and your order will be with you shortly.

I will do! I've also logged a complaint with my bank, disputing the Visa debit charge just incase. It looks promising though that gormy80 actually managed to get a refund though...
• I paid for a Wii Fit from these guys too. I've emailed 3 times about a refund but haven't heard anything except that my request will be passed on to accounts. I called the number (0844 8005712) on zavvidirect website but was put on hold for over an hour before i gave up.
I'm getting no answer from the mobile number (07824 191 167) on the webpage at the moment either. Great eh?
I rang Protx but was told to wait until it had been 21 days then call my bank. Problem is i already called my bank(Natwest) and was told they couldn't do anything as it's not their fault, GRRR.
I've contacted Watchdog like a few others have because if enough people complain they should investigate it and (hopefully)get our cash back!

I'll let you know if i get the Wii Fit or a refund.

This one smells just like the musthave100.co.uk scam from a few months ago...

'The stock is coming, honest'....then on the day everybody's orders were due, the phones suddenly stop being answered as do the emails...

The important thing to estabilsh is where everyone's cash has gone or is in the process of going to.

Find out where the dosh has gone and you've a chance of getting it back.
