    Another family favourite :

    Flapjacks

    7oz margarine
    4 tbsp golden syrup
    10oz oats
    6 oz brown sugar

Melt the margarine syrup and sugar over a low heat until all melted and the sugar dissolved.(you could do this in the microwave but don’t leave it unattended)

Sir into the oats, press into a lightly greased baking tin about 12” x 8” about 1” deep firm down and bake for 20 minutes at gas 4 or equivalent(should just start to go brown around the edges). Cool for 10 minutes then mark into 15 pieces by scoring the surface with a knife. Allow to cool completely, then turn out and break along the score lines.

Made these last night. Very yummy they are too! I always add some extras to my flapjacks - a good handful of each type of seed I have in my cupboard (sesame, flax, sunflower, hemp and pumpkin, except DH has eaten all the pumpkin!, plus coconum) and some dried fruit. I - ahem - ate all the raisins (yes I know I can't moan about DH eating all the pumpkin seeds) so I snipped some dates into the mix.

I used to make rubbish flapjacks until I actually started following the most important part of the recipe - LEAVE TO COOL COMPLETELY!!! Since I started doing that I haven't ended up with a tray of granola :rotfl:

donnajt - i know what you mean about repetition we have had more adventurous food since we started eating more vegetarian dishes (so we could afford to buy organic meat)

one of the best has been lentil moussaka

    serves 4
    Sauce

    100g green brown lentils
    50g red lentils
    50g yellow split peas
    1 large onion chopped
    1 courgette diced quite small
    1 aubergine diced quite small
    1 500ml carton passata
    teaspoon lazy garlic
1 can chopped tomatoes plus 1/2 can ful of water
1 tablespoon greek seasoning (from lidl about 50p for a big bag)

    Topping

500ml carton natural yoghurt (smartprice is fine)
    1 egg
    grated cheese

Place all the sauce ingredients into a pan and cook for about 50 minutes until the lentils are cooked i dont soak them beforehand but you can if you want

You may need to add a bit more water as you cook the sauce but it needs to be quite thick to support the topping when its cooked put in a lasagne type dish and smooth the top

prepare the sauce by beating the egg into the yoghurt along with some grated cheese pour over the sauce mix and sprinkle over more grated cheese pop into a hot oven for about 20 minutes until the sauce is set and golden

We have this with wedges and salad

It wasn't until the 3rd time i cooked it they realise there was no meat in it!

It's very hard to do that!! Half my batch goes eaten warm.. I have just made a batch using a "posh" porridge mix with dried raspberries and cranberries - inexplicably RTC at the Co-op, (best before Aug 2008  ) I don't think there will be any to try cold.. I am going to try Twinks Hobnobs with this too - I will report back :D

    Hi

After the success of the apple braid some time ago I have finally got around to making a savoury version. Thought I'd post it here to share as I've grabbed so many great recipes off you lot! :o

I cut the sugar back in the original recipe and chucked some dried oregano in with the dough ingredients.

The filling was parma ham, halloumi and roasted vegetables (butternut squash, courgettes, mushrooms, peppers, red onion, tomatoes, carrots and parsnips) I always dry fry cumin, coriander and fennel seeds, grind them in mortar and pestle and chuck over the veg with some garlic. Everyone loves them cooked this way.

It was gorgeous. Not the cheapest loaf I've ever made but I was using up stuff from the fridge and it was well worth it. Would probably use pancetta or streaky bacon out of choice, instead of the parma ham.

Will make it again and again and again. Have 1 portion left for lunch tomorrow and my daughter and I have already fought over it tonight. Luckily I leave for work first so will just grab it and run in the morning :D

Sounds good. The dough makes lovely soft sweet rolls too - I did some with lemon icing last week. As it's softer than ordinary bread dough I might use the same recipe to make teacakes and hot cross buns. Will definitely try a savoury one though.

Inspired... I'm leaving the family on their own as of tomorrow and I could do a fridge clearance special with this one!!!
