  • Just tried this out for the first time in Tesco Express, Chiswick High Road. I found Thin Beef Steak cheaper on the shelf than the packet (have posted in the relevant thread) so took all 5 packets to the checkout and sure enough, they went through at the higher price. As its an Express, there was no customer service area, so I spok directly to the manager. I had to show him the label on the shelf and then he said he would either refund the difference or give me my money back but keep the items. When I explained Tesco's pricing policy to him (!) he still refused to believe me so I sent him off to speak to head office. He did make me feel very uncomfortable and was quite agressive about the whole thing. 10 minutes later he came back and gave me the refund but was not exactly apologetic. There was also lean mince beef priced £2.00 on the shelf and £2.01 on the packet but I was too embarrassed to try and get that refunded so I don't know what the price was throught he till (no scanning machines).
Anyway, very glad I did stand my ground and next time I will be taking along a copy of the policy from their website.

Sorry for my ignorance, still reasonably new to this!! Which thread did you post it in? My DH has just had a similar experience that I would like to share with others.
:DThe world would be a sad place to live with no chocolate! :D
  • Hi bargain hunting, I had a similar experience to the one above and shared it with others on this thread. I also had an apology from Tesco HO which I copied onto here.

Nimisprices in Folkestone. The only thing I had was a loaf of bread that had bene reduced and the full price was scanned. The SC lady tried to give me the difference but I am sure the policy applies to this as well so if you see any reduceds where the label isn't covered you might get them free if the wrong price it scanned.

Sorry PG. This is Checkout Assistant error, so does not qualify under R + R. You will only get the difference refunded in these situations.

R&R would apply in this case as you have been charged a higher price than displayed on the product or sel, checkout error refers to instances of overscanning such as you purchase one item but two are scanned, this is clearly not an overcharge on the product yet still an overcharge on your overall shop, they can apply this because of the wording of their promise which specifically refers to the product and sel and not the bill.

In this case the original poster was right in assuming r&r would apply.

I'm sure someone once said on one of these threads that they were told by a Tesco manager that R&R applies to any overcharge, be it double-scanning or overcharge on a reduced item or anything.

I haven't tried it personally though, and would assume it would lead to loads of hassle.

I'm sure I read on here somewhere that someone checked this one out with HO as this had happened to them. HO confirmed that Checkout assistant errors were different to R+R as it meant the CA hadn't seen the reduced price and was a one off human error rather than a storewide error.

Dormouse- we read a lot on here, eh?!!!!;)

I agree policy wording looks like it should be different. Another case where HO say one thing to one person and something different to someone else?!

It does not apply to being charged twice or the cashier charging you for the wrong thing (eg asparagus instead of bananas). I argued this point with them over a dress that they charged for twice for, and didn't win (received emailfrom HO explaining cashier error -v- pricing error). AND the cheeky mare had the nerve to try and refund me only the sale price because it had been reduced since I bought it!!!!

I can confirm Ben500 is correct on this matter, happened to me on some potatoes a while ago, CS gave me full refund and the item, they had scanned the wrong sticker, had two reduced sticker on them, one at 70p the other at 20p or something like that. Did not even have to ask for it, only noticed couple of days later aswell.

There you go again Wallace I never said anything about Tesco hiring security personel I am fully aware of how they source their security personel and need no lessons from you thank you very much as for my views how do you know they are based on one or two individuals, did you ask the question? no you didn't so don't provide the answer yourself! As for my argument for shelf replenishers not being valued how on earth does it become affected by your assumations? I stand by what I say and as for rubbishing the security at Tesco I did it because they are deserving of it in general in Tesco and in the industry in general and my references to shelf replenishers is not based on the rewards they get but the recognition and respect they get from Tesco as a company.
Do me a favour and find someone else to attribute your drivel to and not me I can think for myself I don't need you to misinterpret my posts for me
So pray Ben how do they source thier security personell, I would be very interested. Why are they deserving of it, what facts do you have to substantiate this sweeping statement?

The reason I ask Ben is that I am employed as a Security Manager with Tesco and have been for 12 years, 2 of those years spent in eastern europe setting up Loss Prevention and Security from green field sites for Tesco. I have also spent 25years with the Royal Military Police and was awarded the BEM by HM The Queen, so you see I am a little angry to say the least at your assumptions.
