Landlady - am I being unreasonable

I think you're looking for two words.
The first word begins with F.0 -
Lol Carolt - amazing isn't it. The way she gets all worked up over such small things there has to be at least an even chance that she will collapse of a heart attack or similar in the next few months.
She mentions a previous tennant so I don't think she lived there, she was an interior designer so that may be the reason for the fuss. Her husband is an accountant so I would imagine that all is well with HMRC.
Sink guards are new to me too, we do tend to have it in because where else would you put it?!!
I will have to investigate the deposit scheme situation a bit further, didn't really pay as much attention as I should have at that point (which is particularly bad given that I am a solicitor, not in property law though so this is all new to me).
We had an inventory at the start, the letting agent did it. She is self managing. At one point the letting agent turned to me and said that she had dealt with this woman before and advised a VERY thorough inventory. Alarm bells were ringing at that point I must say.
I've decided that I am not going to allow her back in at the end of the month, there is a gas inspection due but I would rather do it myself than have her sticking her nose in again. I will also consider witholding last months rent, don't like the thought of doing that but I suspect it is the only option. Shame really as we would have stayed for longer if she hadn't been such a nutter, she was really keen at the outset to make sure that we intended to stay for a couple of years at least. Serves her right!!

I feel sorry for the predicament of the OP with having such a landlady but some of those things are just hilarious.
We're renting at the moment and if that was our landlady we'd spend all day moving everything about and maybe even have to invest in a lesson or two in how to levitate to avoid foot damage.
Doesn't she know that cushions only need to be poofed every 3 months? She's just scientifically incorrect and it seems her cushions will take the brunt of the over-poofing which seems a shame since they must be really nice cushions deserving of better. After posting about receiving an email to my MSE username/email from 'Money Expert' (note the use of ' '), I am now unable to post on MSE. Such is life.0 -

Also if you genuinely suspect that she might not be paying income tax on her rental income it could be worth contacting HMRC.
Christ, I wouldnt want to get on the wrong side of you!
There can be severe consequenced to wanting tenants to keep your cushions 'puffed' I had never envisaged!0 -
well noticed! I was still too busy laughing at someone being threatened with notice for non-puffy cushions. I am sorry, it's not funny..............:rotfl:
I know!!! Don't forget the washing powder residue....
I must admit when she pointed this out I laughed, saw that she wasn't laughing at which point I turned to her husband and asked "she's serious isn't she"... I couldn't hold it in any longer!0 -
Can I just ask, how often I should defrost my freezer?
Cos when I was a student it was when you physically couldn't fit anything in the ice box and you needed to go 'off piste' to get at the fish fingers?0 -
Let this be a warning to the str's :rotfl:0

Write to her, saying what you have said here in this thread. Say that you have taken her comments on board, but that you are entitled to quiet enjoyment of the property & will not be subject to another inspection.
At the same time you might want to ask which scheme your deposit is held in. You were meant to get the prescribed info within 14 days of handing over the deposit.
The letting agent said that to you and you stilll moved in???0 -

when the door won't close any more :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks - you've all made me feel a lot better about this now that I know that it isn't me living this awful life that falls short of anyone else's standards!
Another one that will make you laugh was her comment on seeing a (closed) box of hair dye on the bathroom side. She told me that she would rather I didn't do that in the flat. Once I explained that I tended to dye my hair topless she backed off, her husband was shuffling nervously with red face at this point! hehe.0
