oh come on women feel discriminated enough in pubs as it is so what if we get some discount on entry to a place were we get chatted up by sleazy men isn't that discrimination to allow that to happen? Its only a £1 after all not worth getting all worked up about.

Are you saying only the non-sleazy are entitled to chat up..that sounds discriminatory against the sleazy..:D

er..what exactly is a "vip area" in chigaco rock cafe..?
  • Why? do you have to pay more?less? or the same amount for drinks?

The actions of members of staff which have no place in the service industry. Its not all about the drinks prices or such but the whole experience.

What have the actions of staff members got to do with discrimination?? are you saying you get chatted by sleazy staff members in every pub you go into?

Absolute no way you could possibly say your discriminated against because of poor service you receive, isnt that poor customer service? I as a male receive that. It has nothing to do with gender

.......it's discrimination for an organisation to impose different rules and charges on people because of their gender.

How do you feel discriminated against in pubs? If you have complaints you should address them to the pub concerned.

The £1 isn't really here nor there, I'm sure the OP was posting because of the principle.

As for being chatted up all the time, well... I wish I had half your luck when I was out and about in my younger days :)

What about unisex hairdressers ? You will find that they usually charge more to cut a woman's hair than a mans. I don't think anyone has ever challenged that.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

If the hairdresser did the same work, I'm sure they'd charge the same rate.

Only when you compare like with like is there an easy comparison.

But they don't. Even if a man has very long hair and a woman has short hair, she will be charged more for a cut, even though there is less work to do than for the man.

... if the working time is the same and no more consumables are used on a woman than a man then it sounds like a case of discrimiantion. Please let us know what your hairdresser says, I'd be very interested. Here and now though it would be a shame to hijack the OP which was to question the legality of a promotion. It's not a "well we have it worse / no you don't" issue.

Any pure discrimination is wrong, no matter what the grounds.

    Thats right.

From what you have posted and the above link they would appear to be in breach of the Sex Discrimination Act.

Are you going to contact them, report it to the ASA or similar?

I thought I'd see how far I'd get with this one, just as a matter of interest. I'd be surprised if I get anywhere (although this shouldn't be the case) but even if this Chicago Rock were forced to withdraw their offer that would be something.

I've emailed my Local Chicago with that web link and my own comments. I've emailed the Equal Opportunities Commission from within that web link.

    I've emailed them:- http://www.ogc.gov.uk/index.asp

    I've emailed them:-http://www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/Pages/Contactus.aspx

    I've emailed them:- http://www.oft.gov.uk/

I'm trying to find an email address for Chicago Rock head office but cant find it.

Now i've emailed the ASA as well.

If I even get any answers back I'll put them on here.

It may be beneficial if others email the above as well.
