D&DD could I just ask is your ds3 on his special diet because of allergies or to try to improve his autism? I ask as my boy aged 4 was diagnosed with autism aged 2 and I was interested (nosey lol)
Hi NPM love the name
Ooh the history bit..well..since my son was born he's had a dodgy tum/bowel probs and a weird sort of skin rash..When we realised he had autism too (long before he was properly diagnosed) I started looking into therapies etc of which there are many  Some work for some kids, other don't work at all..some are downright dangerous!
I just wanted him to have the best quality of life he can have and to be happy
I've never been one for using drugs although I understand for some people they are the right choice..so sought out natural things I could do..
I read up on the diet and had the Sunderland urine Test done also, this led to a test for coeliacs too..The weird skin turned out to be dermatitus herpetimformus a thing you can get with coeliacs..and he also tested positive for this (we don't do anything by halves in this house  )
The more I read up on the diet the more it made sense to try it as it was natural and a healthy way to live anyway!I dabbled for ages..especially as you know our kids can have such ummm different ways with foods:rotfl: (see strawberry posts!!) and finally after the tests went the whole hog and pulled the lot..his skin is now clear..his tum is much better..although we still have 'stinky cabbage bottom' at times  thats a man thing anyway :rotfl:
He is coming on very well,I'll never know wether its all down to the diet or a combination of things that we do/did i.e early intervention strategies etc but for him it works and he's happy and although it means spending most of my days up to my elbows in flour I wouldn't change a thing0 -
glad to hear he is doing well!!
I have often wondered if the GFCF diet would do anything to improve DS autism but with his routines and very restricted diet i think it would be a struggle to get him to accept it.....his main food source is bread for a start!
anyway must dash as promised to make buns with ds and chicken pie for tea......sadly am using bought pastry as mine is always disastrous...must learn how to make pastry that is not rock hard hehe.0 -
my french stick loaf tin thingy turned up today.
so guess what i'm making later on. yah.
i wanna start making it now , but got an appointment and can't
will report back later and maybe post a pic.0 -

Hi All
Am just sat rereading bits of the thread and realised dont alot fo our families have health problems?/issues? (sorry but thats the only way i could think to phrase it - no offense in any way intended).
Whether it ranges from autism, to aspergers, to ADHD to allergies, to intolerances. Isnt it nice to think that just maybe the fact that we are all home baking and cooking and providing nice, nutritionally balanced food (besides the sudden rise in doughnut production! ) that it is helping all our children lead normal lives and healthy lifestyles.

D&DD... do you have a recipe for GF (and dairy free) pastry? DM is coeliac and also suffers with lactose intolerance... I have promised to make mince-pies for the rest of the family for christmas but cannot not make any for DM!
What does your son's diet consist of? (I know gluten free but wasn't sure about CF?) Do you all eat the same diet? Sorry for the nosey questions.. am just curious having lived with DM's diet... she pretty much doesn't eat cakes/biscuits/pies... just occasionally but otherwise we all eat the sameTis much healthier and quite OS!

Hello all... not been on MSE for ages as so busy now with DD and uni, but due to flooding there are no trains going today...yay! So a nice "Mummy Day" at home for me and as DD had jabs yesterday, it's nice to be home in case she's feeling poorly.
We're moving house in 3 weeks so I'm trying to eat out of the freezer and stores so they don't get wasted. Just a thought though...:money: I'm sure Martin would say it's not really moneysaving to buy loads in bulk all the time just to hoard (and I know my mum and I are probably worst offenders) but has anyone thought about putting a little money aside each week rather than buying supplies? At least it would earn interest and not take up space!
I know back in the bad old days it was good to have backup in the form of supplies as abusive husbands etc couldn't spend it down the pub!
Does anyone use the Asda/Tesco savings voucher schemes where they add on extra at certain dates? Just wondered....

i noticed a few of you use your tesco vouchers instore:eek:
i totally understand if you are desperate or cannnot use any of the deals but next time check out completed tesco clubcard vouchers on ebay. they tend to go for more than double their face value. you would normally change them into the deals the buyer wants and then send them onto them. the only ones where your surname is an issue seem to be the holidays & goldsmiths.
if you want to find out ways to maximise your vouchers for little spending check out

Enjoy your bonus at-home day!!
Yes good idea to stash the cash if that suits your situation.
When I lived in town I could walk/drive to any number of shops within 5 minutes so I never worried about stocking up. But now I live in the boondocks as they say in US and I dont have a car, I like to have full store cupboards especially with winter coming on - at the first sign of bad weather the bus services grind to a halt. I try to stock up when things are on bogof or reduced and only things I'll use.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

a friend of mine said today another friend and i can go to cash and carry on thursday with him if we want as they have all there xmas deals starting. yippeee i thought. but i was thinking i wonder what is actually a good deal. never been before. was thinking could get a nice big gammon joint for xmas. but then thought it might be too big and not be money saving in long term.
any ideas ? not sure if gonna go. as don't need anything at all.
i've got the bread dough in bm for the french stick's.
what do i need to cook them in oven for and do i need to allow time to rise after getting dough out of machine and kneeding it ready for the tin ,
