BT Direct Debit, How To Beat It

UPDATE:
Looking good so far, they should be taking the direct debit on or before today but it's not gone out so far as I just checked online banking.
I used the phone system to check my current BT bill and I am in credit, and on my online BT account it say's the bills paid, I did pay a bit more just in case it never worked.
Sign up to Direct debit but keep paying using online banking.
Also works with a payment card so long as the account is in credit.
I paid in my normal old way with online banking, I will let it do the test over 2 months to make sure but it looks good so far.clark1982 wrote:I worked on the roll out of this project, I know the procedures.
Sometimes people get it wrong.
I would hate to be the computer programer who has to make the system check every account for direct debit then to check if the account has been paid by another method and if so apply a charge to it.
Seems a little to complicated and a lot of work every month or quarter.0 -
It would be nice for someone to test the system using another payment method.0

I work at a senior level within BT customer services. You WILL be charged the fee.
Thanks for posting to this thread!
Are "payment processing fees" charged in advance or arrears? I.e does a fee charged in May cover the processing of the payment I made in April, or is a charge in advance for processing my payment for the May bill?
Forgive me for asking such a dull question, but as I've made a payment in advance to cover the next few months, I want to know whether I've paid for that payment to be processed already or whether there will be another charge!
(Any bets, folks, on how long it takes BT to rename "payment processing fee" to something else?)0 -
My thinking is now, when another firm tries to force me to direct debit or charge me for not paying that way I will test thier sytems too.0

Account payment charges
Payment Processing Fee
This section shows the charge leived by BT for processing your payment by a method other than Monthly Payment Plan or Whole Bill Direct Debit.
Description Cost (£)
Payment processing fee 4.50
Total £4.50
Sorry if this is obvious but I've seen people discuss a £1.50 charge for not using DD, where does £4.50 come from?
EDIT: sorry didnt realise it was £1.50 per month.0 -
£1.50 = Monthly X 12 per year
£4.50 = Quarterly X 4 per year
Yes it costs three times as much to process a quarterly bill !!!!!!! But I can't follow the logic.0 -
From 1 May 2007, BT Payment Services Ltd, a separate BT Group company, is introducing a payment processing fee for customers who do not pay their telephone bills by Direct Debit or Monthly Payment Plan as all other methods of payment cost BT more to process. Customers not on a Direct Debit or Monthly Payment Plan by the time of their next bill will be charged a single payment processing fee of £1.50 (for monthly billed customers) or £4.50 (for quarterly billed customers). You can avoid the new payment processing fee if you sign up to Direct Debit or Monthly Payment Plan. Visit https://www.bt.com/payments. Please note: These changes dont apply to customers on a special scheme such as In Contact Plus, the Light Use Scheme and Pay & Call.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0

Can you sort them out then ? They have left a disabled customer cut off & why?
BT divisions blaming each other for a massive billSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
i'd be careful if you really are BT staff - especially senior level...which id like to see you prove!
i too work at BT, googled Payment Processing Fee, this came up...if you are senior level you should know you are bound by contract of employment not to discuss pretty much anything to do with BT's policies, else you face the sack
im not saying you've violated it with what you've said in this post, just that you could be risking your very nice "senior level" pay for a message board :P0
