I cleaned the outside of my windows and patio doors today with a white vinegar/water solution. They came up brilliantly.
The frames are pvc and had never been cleaned since we bought the house, but they have been returned to brilliant white.
I can't recommend vinegar as a cleaner enough!

Ive just cleaned the whole bathroom on about 5 capfuls of vinegar added to water with a little dab of borax to get the sink lav and bath shiny shiny 8) 8)
we are building a conservatory and the house windows are thick with sand and cement and god knows what, I was cleaning them daily then I gave up
so im going to try to take before and after pics when I clean them with the vinegar and newpaper to polish them

Have recently discovered a great book :"Talking Dirty with the Queen of Clean" by Linda Cobb (found it in my local library). Fantastic hints & tips on cleaning just about everything & stain removal - using mostly vinegar , bicarb , borax , lemon juice & soda water .
Have tried a few of the tips & they worked a treat !
Where can I buy borax ? Do chemists stock it ?
Has anyone found large packets of bicarb anywhere ?

Recipe for window cleaner:
1 cup paraffin
1 cup water
1 cup methylated spirit
Shake well in a bottle, rub on glass and polish off when dry. This is from my "Down with Superwoman" book by Shirley Conran.
Also, for carpet stains make up a pint of carpet shampoo with water according to the bottle instructions but add a teaspoon of white vinegar to it too.
Also, for puppy wee smells or baby sick etc, soda water will get rid of the smell from furniture or carpets etc.0 -
Another couple of tips I picked up from the tv this week:
Put a quantity of baking soda into your plug hole so that it is a little heaped. Add a pint of water with a couple of teaspoons of white vinegar in it. It will start to fizz and go down your plug, fizzing and clearing as it goes.
If you have hairspray spots on your mirror that won't come off put a little isoprophyl alcohol onto a cloth and rub onto the spots. This will make them disappear. (I believe you can get it from DIY stores).0 -
nail varnish remover gets hair spray off mirrors if you cant be botherd looking for the alcohol

Did anyone see the tip on tv this morning about descaling your iron? I think she used white vinegar but I only heard part of it. My iron isn't steaming any more unless I keep pressing the button for extra steam. I have tried the descaling solution that you buy and this made it worse!0

Barcarbonate soda & jif lemon with a toothbrush works really well to bring the grouting back so that it looks new, gets rid of mould and mildew.........0
