Hi, everyone, hope you're all warm and well :hello:

    My five for today:

    1. Delicious (and cheap) curry at my local curry house with another MSEer.

    2. Managing to salvage 1/2 bottle of wine to take home with us - that'll go into some casseroles in the slow cooker.

    3. My car starting first time after lying idle for 2 days, and getting to work safely.

    4. Another good gym session to start the day.

    5. A short day at work, and it's Friday, so no work for 2 days.

Have a good weekend, everyone x.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

Strange day again. I spoke to my solicitor and she said, after the ex's recent behaviour (well, after his behaviour over the past 5 years!) the time has come to stop him having contact with the children. :-( I don't know what to think. Nothing I have tried over 5 years has worked. He will doubtless take me to court about this. I also learned he has pleaded not guilty to his fraud case so he'll definitely be off to the Crown Court.

    Anyway, 5 for today!

    1) Got out of the house! Managed to get the car 2 miles up the road and took the boys swimming :-)

    2) The boys had another day off school (haven't been since 17th December...) The radio station websites just say the school is closed. I looked on the County Council site and it says closed due to boiler repairs.

    3) Little son is quite taken with the idea of gritting everything himself so we got another bucket of grit and gritted from our house to the village shop (on the pavements).

    4) Made another tasty tea. Little son has been going through a fussy stage so I got him to write out meals for the week that he would like. So today we had Chicken Kievs, baked potatoes, they had brocolli and I had a bit of brocolli and some leek. Followed by rice pudding.

    5) All got in my bed so they could tell me their made up bedtime stories. Very funny and both involved Dr Who!

    6) Going to have a warm bath now, get my hot water bottle and watch QI on the iplayer. Hope its on there already. Both cats are in (rare). Its -5 outside so not as cold as it has been but there is a horrible, icy wind.

Hello - hope everyone is snug and warm.

    My five pleasures for today:

    1. Weighed myself (which I haven't done for 6 weeks or so) and have discovered that I've re-lost the weight that had crept back in November and have lost a few more pounds on top of that, all without trying or starving :D, so I'm pretty pleased with myself. I'd like to have lost about a stone and a half by the end of the year. At this rate I might actually do it!

    2. Got furniture moved round this afternoon to make things more comfortable for me to work. My desk is now by a window taking advantage of the beautiful snow-light, not in the under-the-stairs fridge/dungeon!

    3. DS1 bought a Debenham's voucher for my neice's birthday present when he was in town today with money I'd got put by in the 'present's fund' (ie evidence of more organisation on my part ) and I've just found a suitable card in my 'must use these cards up before I get any more' stash so that's all been sorted without me having to leave the house.

    4. Remembering lots of 'when I was little and it snowed heavily' stories to share with my children.

    5. Hot chocolate and toast while I've been typing this.

    Sweet dreams

    B xxx

Evening everybody  - another lovely bright, but very cold, day here - still no sign of the snow melting yet.

artydoll - wd you on your crocheted throw - hope you have many 'snuggly hours' with it .
niksyg - sorry you had to cancel your weekend away but wtg to your OH on becoming a local celeb HSski2.gif.
grandmasam - good to hear that all was ok for you at the doc's :). Great time of year to have a 'seed sort out' - the promise of harvests yet to come ;).
bonty44 - wtg to you and your ds on completing the space mobile - my dgs1 got one last christmas, but all the pieces were lost when they moved house :(. Hope you enjoyed the Lemon Drizzle Cake .
Kitchenbunny - great couple of days there, Kb - wd on sticking to your guns over the fizzy drinks - my OH is really struggling - has had to do it by gradual reduction :).
Ladyhawk - special HSkittenhug.giffor Toupe - I'm sure he'll be much brighter tomorrow - fingers crossed that he stays on his blanket while his mouth is still bleeding. :T on your payrise.
FunkyFairy - wd you on feeding 8 so resourcefully :j.
angeltreats - wd to Jim for getting you up the hills safely ;).
jollymummy - :T to your OH on the Leek and Potato Soup - I'm lucky if mine microwaves a jacket potato .
nuttybabe - sorry to hear about your problem with the drains - fingers crossed that they get it sorted asap. Great that your ds got the swine flue jab that he needed.
Patchwork Quilt - Brilliant to hear that your writing is coming along nicely :j - and wd to you and dd on such a 'companionable' evening :).
catznine - ooooh another 'scarf watch' but sorry to hear you're not 100% - should give you a good excuse to get on with the knitting ;). That Fenland Celery and Stilton Soup sounds really delish. My OH can't stand meals with cheese in them, but it's something that I love - could always freeze in individual portions :j.
scotrae - I'm sorry to hear that you didn't think your interview went well - but you never know .............. :). 19yrs ago I got a letter telling me that I hadn't got a job and then the next day a phone call saying that the letter was a mistake and I had got it - I'm still in the same job today .
savingforoz - wd on your 'mini-meet' at the curry house AND wtg that you brought the left-over wine home with you - true mse :j!
ACEY - wd to your ds's on helping with meal-planning - hope it helps to get them to experiment with things they wouldn't normally eat . Also wd to your ds2 on his gritting exploits :T.
Broomstick - wtg on your weightloss :j and on moving your desk around. I'm sure in front of a window MUST be an improvement on 'under the stairs' :).

Mine for the past two days:

    1. Defrosted some Savoury Lamb Mince before finding out that dgs2 (Dylan the Villain) was staying overnight. To s-t-r-e-t-ch it to feed three, I put it in a casserole dish with a pastry crust on top, then served with creamed potatoes and greenbeans. OH was well impressed with the result - and so was I. Good to know I haven't lost my touch with pastry :j.

    2. Had an accident with my work mobile phone - absolutely essential part of my job! I managed to drop it down the toilet AFTER flushing :eek::eek: - one of those moments when you see something happen in slow motion, try to stop it - but only succeed in making matters worse. I think it could have been my hand plunging into the bowl that pushed it round the U-bend. I sat panicking for a few minutes, then had a serious crying session BEFORE phoning my boss-lady - she was working from home as unable to travel the 65mls from where she lives. She burst out laughing when I told her, which made me cry all the more :o. The blessing of that one is that I've still got a job .

    3. Rang our IT department to order a new phone this morning and had to hear the Director of Communications/Technology laughing hysterically when I explained that I couldn't possibly return the damaged phone and sim-card for a new one to be issued - he even made a wild guess as to why not AND got it right :o. This story is going to circulate right round our organisation . New phone and sim-card due on Tues/Wed and I've managed to find a way around the mobile phone/Intercom situation :j.

    4. DD rang this morning to say that her c/h boiler has packed in and she's got no hotwater/heating. Luckily the kids have all gone to their dads for the weekend so there's only her and b/f in the house - I'm sure THEY can find some way to keep warm ;).

    5. Visit from DS2 today to collect dgs2 - he stayed for a couple of hours which is always good .

    6. Not very OS, but we resorted to oven fish and chips for evening meal tonight.

    7. Taken two packs of Oxtail out of the freezer for tomorrow. Also got some soup/broth mix, pearl barley, lentils in soaking. They'll all go in the slow cooker in the morning with some carrots, onions and leeks.

    8. Had a good old rummage in the freezers today and there's loads of stuff to keep us going. Should only need bread, milk, margarine, soap powder, fresh fruit/veg and eggs when I get paid on 15th. That will hopefully leave me with enough money to pay the deposit for our holiday in May - want to get it booked asap so it becomes a reality :j:j.

That's me done for this evening. Hope everybody is still keeping snug and warm. Special HSarmhugs_9780.giffor all who need them. Take care out there if you HAVE to go out this weekend. speak again tomorrow - love Ollie xxx

    Morning all,

    1. Seeing all the animals napping. Ahhhhh.
    2. Using up some orange juice from the fridge. It was well within 5 days of opening so I'm drinking it now.
    3. Getting to the shops for food supplies and for there being deliveries there. Every one of those delivery drivers has earned their crust today, hope they all go home to hot meals. We didn't go mad and buying up loads of bits hopefully leaving stuff for others. I must check if my neighbour has milk n stuff.
    4. Our car starting. The doors had all bar one frozen shut but bless her she started (she's about 20 years old!).
    5. Seeing the decluttering is beginning to make a difference. Just need to keep it up.

Off to have a last glance around the site, then make an irish coffee and read a book. Lots of layers everyone!
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!"
Less things. Less stuff. More life.
 Fab thread: Long daily walks

Good morning all :hello: - another beautiful clear but bitterly cold day here. Ground/snow all still frozen solid so very dangerous to go out.

I'm still having Internet Connection problems occasionally, looks as though mornings 7.30-9.30 is particularly bad for some reason at the moment, so I'll concentrate on posting my own pleasures in the evenings to see if that makes a difference.

bunny too - hope you enjoy your farmer's market today - I'm so envious that you have one that close by. Our nearest is held once a month about 5 or 6 miles away with a 2-bus journey each way. Hardly worth going to - though I may think differently when I get my 'free bus pass' next year :j. wtg to you and your friend on your pamper sessions - what a sensible idea :T.
mineallmine - wd on checking your neighbour's needs and on restraint in the supermarket - my OH has been sent out today for some fresh veggies and suet. What a blessing that your carpink.gif is still making the effort for you .

It's near killing me not to go to the supermarket myself, but I'm notoriously clumsy on the best of days (have broken ribs, ankles, toes and both wrist in the past - though none of them due to ice/snow). My kids and OH appear to have contrived between them to keep me indoors as much as possible for the foreseeable future. Every time I mention needing something, either OH gets it or DS1 or DS2 appears with the offer of a lift to the shop entrance. Seriously thinking of starting up a SSWSG (Supermarket Shopping Withdrawal Support Group) - 'my name is Olliebeak and I'm an Asda addict'.

I'll pop back in again later for a nosey. Keep warm and cosy everybody and hope none of us are coming down with anything - love Ollie xxx

My five pleasures for so far today:

    1) Having a dance. I put the Wii on and got up and shook my stuff! I had a bop to some of my favourite tunes and got up a bit of a sweat - actually turned the heating off ;)
    2) A nice lay in bed. Staying under the covers until half eight made a heck of a difference. Two cups of tea later, and a bit of brunch and I feel ready to face the day :)

    3) Realising I don't actually have to go to the supermarket if I don't have to - :D

    4) Looking forward to doing the ironing and making some flapjacks. I won't have to have the heating on while doing those :D

    5) Going to see some friends later (apparently). DH's plans might mean we don't go until later, and my evening watching a film all cosied up on the sofa is in jeopardy. :(

    Have a good day everyone

    Kitchenbunny xx

Thanks for the best wishes for Toupe Ollie - he is a little better today...

    My pleasures today so far:

    1) icing the cup cakes that I made last night for my parents and brothers

    2) Getting my hair cut... it is a right mess at the moment and I have a lovely hairdresser who always makes me feel fabulous (I am hoping they are having a Janaury discount!!)

    3) Taking my ski boots in to get refitted rather than buying a new pair. Well that's the plan at least

    4) Having banana bread that I made last night for breakfast

    5) Popping in to Asda and it was fairly quiet - and the checkout lady was friendly.

    Have a great day everyone!
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

5 a day so far today....

    1. Dough whipping about in the BM for a loaf and some poppy seed rolls
    2. Post this morning had 2 'proper' letters in it (as opposed to Email ;))
    3. Wheatbags keeping chilly bits  warm :D
    4. BH doing his famous Breakfast for Lunch thang... (full fry-up)
    5. The fire screen we picked up for £1.50. It's keeping the pooch (who is blind & deaf) away from the lounge gas fire so we can have it on today! Which is cheaper than having the central heating on fairly high for all rooms when we're only going to be in 2!
