Until recently I held a High Interest Current Account with Halifax.
Then applied within the space of 10 days for 3 Reward accounts.
First two opened instantly, no problem. Third, "decision pending"
finally "declined". Waited for a letter and was told that the limit
was 3 current accounts. So rang my local branch, said can you
convert my HICA into a Reward Account. Job was done over the
phone. So now have 3 Reward Accounts, bringing hopefully £180 in a year.
  • My inital plan was (I guess I've learnt it from Yorkshireboy) to keep my High Interest Current Account and open 3 new Reward Accounts. And then convert my High Interest also to a Reward Account. The goal was to get 4 Reward Accounts.
But it didn't work as my applications for further Reward Accounts with the Halifax got declined.

The result is: I converted my High Interest and student account into Reward accounts so that I'm holding 3 Reward Accounts with the Halifax.

Are there people who are holding 3 Reward Accounts with Halifax and another 3 Reward Accounts with Bank of Scotland? If so, I might try to open further 3 Bank of Scotland Reward Accounts.

First instance to me would be that you already hold 3 Current Accounts within Halifax Bank of Scotland and this is the limit for any one customer.
    This can cause a decline.

Not sure about there being a limit of 3 current accounts. Although it could be a recent change of policy.
    I have 5.
3 Reward, 1 HICA and one Easycash.

I don't know if you're aware yet, but on 6th December your HICA will become 'Current Account' (same overdraft fees as the Reward account, but no £5 reward). You then won't be able to change this over to a Reward, as this would take you further over the (new) limit of one joint and one single Reward account.

If your HICA is your main current account, it might be worth considering closing one of your Rewards now, then changing your HICA over to a Reward. That way you'll have three Rewards, but only have to manage three accounts, rather than three Rewards, and managing four accounts.

I assume the "Current Account" will not have the £1000 monthly funding requirement?
I will probably leave them as they are. None of them are my main account.

No, there'll be no minimum monthly funding on the current account.

It was only if you had DDs/SOs on the HICA, then it would probably be simpler to do what I said in my previous post than to change them all over to one of your existing Reward accounts.
  • Just saw this thread - if you have a student account with Halifax, you can't get a Reward account. This comes from the horses mouth when I spoke to them a month or so ago over the phone.

I have heard call centre staff in banks called many things in my time.

    But a horse?

This is incorrect. There is nothing at all to stop you from having both.

What rb10 said. My daughter has both. Student A/c with interst-free overdraft and Reward which I ping £1000 per month through on her behalf.
