That makes it Spam by any common definition.
Was it illegal? Revised UK regulations mean online marketers can send e-mail pitches and SMS messages only to consumers who have agreed beforehand to receive them, except where users are existing customers of a particular company.
Firstly, I'm pretty sure pipelinecard isn't a company, and given we don't pay to be on their list, we aren't customers....
We specifically did not agree to this sort of marketing, thus this breached the Privacy & Electronic Communications Regulations and of the Data Protection Act. So yes, it was even illegal, in my judgement
Do you want to do business with an organisation that hasn't come up with the goods after several months of empty promises, and is now, in my opinion, committing illegal acts to market goods to it's "subscribers"?
I know the answer to that...0 -
Marmalade card.
I;ve just called these folk, to have a kid on the phone deny I ever joined, and not be able to find my payment details, despite the fact thay they drew £17 from my Barclaycard...
Why is it OK for people like this to promise the earth, charge for it, then not supply, and expect to be allowed to simply refund the money? I've lost out o the bargain offered, and I don;t see why this is any different to getting your penalty charges back from the banks
Can someone explain where I'm going wrong?0 -
I am not sure if the Marmalade scheme is that good. They quite happily took my £9.99 payment over a month ago but as yet I have had nothing from them despite several phone calls and emails. They do promise to get someone to phone me back but it never happens.
I paid the £9.99 by credit card so i think I will have to contact my credit card company to claim a refund.0 -

I've just had a PM from Yulfie calling me a liar.
These people will not get away with this cavaliar attitude.
Martin, I'm very unhappy that they even had a recommendation, and expect your intervention to get us the deal we were offered, and have paid for, not some watered down "business only" offering.0 -

OK, we are pretty tolerant of most of what is said about Pipeline by members but illegal is definitely a first.
Our Terms & Conditions are only two paragraphs but all members have agreed to them and agree to receive emails about the card AND other Pipeline activities. That should cover just about anything that Pipeline chooses to do.
As it happens, we choose not to send out lots of commercial offerings, we have quietly turned down hundreds of offers of discounts - some of them pretty good. We don't carry ads, we don't have links or banners and (unlike Marmamalade) we haven't asked anyone for a membership fee.
The sat nav offer has been our only endorsed offer in seven months. Elsewhere on this board, members are being advised to grab it quick before the month is up.

Nick,
Thanks for adding a bit of sanity to this subject. I am sure you are as frustrated as we are that you have not been able to sort out a deal yet. Good luck and keep trying.
May I suggest that if you feel you want to pass on any further offerings you simply include a link in one of you regular updates on the card. This way people can take it or leave it.
Regards,

So you are now officially saying that Pipeline is now pursuing the activity of marketing GPS equipment!?!?!
Your 'what is' pipeline page: http://www.pipelinecard.org/whatispipeline.html does not suggest any such activities.
And if your interpretation of the policy is correct then the policy is completely worthless. I would suggest you seek proper legal advice before making such foolish sweeping statements in the future.0 -
I'm new to this money saving lark, but heard martin on the radio talking about the fuel discount, and visited the site.
Reading all this info, i have to say it's a difficult situation.
Will we ever really be able to get a fuel discount.I doubt it !!
I've also just been forwarded an email from a friend telling me of another site offering a fuel card.
Not sure if it's running, there's no contact details except for an email address.
I've written to them asking for more info about the scheme, but so far no joy. All I can say is that they say they will offer the card for free, and they don't take any personal details from you apart from an email address.
Look forward to sharing more moneysaving tips in the future.
May the force be with us (and Martin of course)0 -
