Heya Whitewing and welcome, I'm exactly a week ahead of you was 8 weeks yesterday. I'm hoping to breastfeed but will have to wait and see how I get on, aiming for the first 3 to 6 months as I'll have to go back to work some time around the 6 month mark and not sure if I'll be able to express enough for then. But really if it doesnt work I have no issue with formula, but gonna give breast my best shot.

Still not sure about all those tests, dont like the idea of tests if there gonna put LO at risk and would never terminate so may be pointless for us. But need to find out more info about them as am still a lil lost with all this.

Counting down the hours till my second scan tomorrow, hoping 2nd bean is ok but not getting my hopes up as dont wanna be let down. Scan is at 1pm hope there not running too late, and then have rest of afternoon off. Got pasting tables to pick up, hoping to do a car boot on Sunday to boost the baby fund :D so have some de cluttering to do.

Anyone else got plans for boosting cash flow? was gonna Ebay but have so much stuff!

OMG did a big 'ole post and the thing has just vanished! see if I can remember what I said..

Heya Whitewing, I'm hoping to breast feed although as its my first baby will be a suck it and see job ('scuse the pun). If it doesnt take though will happily use formula, but will give Breast a good go before I give in. As for tests I really dont know enough about them at this stage, all I can say is I dont like the idea of anything that puts LO at risk, and OH and I have said we would not terminate so maybe all a bit pointless.

Counting down the hours till 2nd scan tomorrow, hope bean 2 has hung in there. Looking forward to seeing bean 1 again though thinking on the positive side. Scan is at 1pm hope there isnt much of a wait to be seen.

    Evening all,

I've been reading but not had chance to post as DD is currently on Tamiflu for suspected Swine Flu  I've been dreading catching it now that I'm pregnant, when the doctor called I asked if there was anything special I should be doing to try and avoid catching it from her his advise was not to let her kiss me - how can you tell a very affectionate 2 year old that she can't kiss mummy :o I'm hoping that it's actually only an ear infection anyway as she's terrribly prone to them but they won't come out to check her ears in case it's the 'flu  Her temperature was 41degC last night, she had calpol and calprofen but it wasn't helping so she ended up in our bed wrapped in cold wet muslin squares to try & cool her down

Back to TTC stuff! We used reusable nappies with DD until she was about 14 months and at nursery & then I'm afraid to admit we changed to disposables :o I was always so proud when people noticed her nappies and said "Wow I'm impressed you use real nappies!", we have a small 2 bed house and no tumble dryer (could have had a washer/dryer but have had trouble with those in the past) so our kitchen constantly had an airer up covered in wet nappies. We saved a fortune as we bought the nappies when the company had an offer on (got 25% off) & then by the time we resold the first size on ebay the nappies had gone up even further in price so we actually sold them for what we paid for them :T So about 10 months of free nappies (well minus the cost of washing etc) :money: Just need to get on and sell the second size now.

Although the nappies were generally quite good & fantastic value we had problems with leaks (wee) & it meant I sometimes had to change DD's vests or clothing during the day. Washing the nappies wasn't a hardship but creating a load of extra clothing to wash wasn't the best. DD's nappy was changed regularly, however, she has always done ginormous wees so if she went after I had just checked it she might leak before I had chance to check it again. We also did a lot of going out during my maternity leave, her music class is an hours drive from my house and then a walk, this meant by the time I got there she had sometimes started leaking. The nappies we used were bulky and meant that some clothes were awkward to get over them and she grew out of items earlier than she would have in disposables. When going out for a whole day I would need to take about 6 nappies, which meant a big changing bag to carry and I have to admit when I changed to reusables I revelled in having a half empty bag :o

We thought our problems with the reusables were due to buying one of the medium price band options, however, a friend bought Tots Bots which are one of the higher price options and she said they had the exact same problem  All-in-all reusables aren't the easiest option but they were no were near as hard work as people think. If we make it to full term with this bean then I would be prepared to try them again but this time I will be using a different brand (and buying a tumble dryer :rotfl: if we manage to move house). Hope I haven't put anyone off reading back what I have written it doesn't sound very positive, sorry :o

With regards to breastfeeding I only managed 11 months with DD which meant I felt really disappointed in myself as I was determined to make it to at least a year, maybe 2. I still feel guilty about it, like I let her down which is probably a bit ridiculous but being a parent come with a huge dollop of guilt  We had real problems at first with the BFing as DD was struggling with latching and I spent the first 4 weeks with lumps of nipple falling out  and lots of blood, then at 6 weeks I got mastitis :( BUT persevering with it was the best thing I have ever, ever done :D

My biggest regret with DD was not going for the homebirth I wanted and allowing everyone to convince me I should just follow convention. This time (hopefully everything being well) I will be able to plan the home-waterbirth I wanted. Before my miscarriage the midwife had asked me which hospital I wanted to go to and when i told her none of them she was very excited, it was lovely to have some enthusiasm.

Sorry that's turned into a really long & probably boring post! Hope I haven't sent you all to sleep!

Sorry for interrupting the thread, I'm a long time lurker who rather sadly just sits at home, wishing you all well! :o

Do the doctors know she's had a temperature of 41 Celsius? Its incredibly hot, bordering on hyperthermia, so even if it is swine flu, they should come and check her out just in case. (I'm a medical student and I'd feel bad if I didn't say anything!)

Anyway, I wish you all the greatest luck and happiness!

That's ok purplehibiscus. Yes the doctors know, I told them when they rang up to diagnose her and he said to just give her the bruprofen & calpol but that's probably because he knows that she regularly ends up with temperatures like this.

DD has had about 12 bad ear infections in the past 18 months and each time her temp gets up to 41C and we struggle to keep it down. The first time she had to stay in hospital so that they could monitor her & I spent 4 nights sleeping on the floor next to her cot as she was only a baby, however, since then they don't seem to worry so much  Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. It is very worrying when you are the parent at 4am with the child who's hands & feet are even red hot because their temperature is so high.

  • Had a lovely scan yesterday! The nurse was very pleased - she found the baby immediately and said 'wow - hasn't it grown!'. From 4mm last week it is now 11.5mm and she says is 'developing perfectly' and spot-on it's size for it's age now! I am so happy and relieved!!!! We are going to tell DH's family on Sunday. It's a bit early, but most of them will be together as they are clearing out his mum's shed & greenhouse for her, and I would be expected to help, so I reckon it's a good time to tell them, then I can be on tea duty! It'll be such a relief to be able to tell friends too - it's been quite stressful having to keep it to ourselves and come up with escuses for why we are not doing certain things we normally would!

Oh - and the 'shadow' from last week definietly appears to have been the other emby, which had implanted and started to develop - yesterday it looked a lot more like the main one did last week, but not as developed inside the sack and sadly no heartbeat. Well, at least we know that it isn't ectopic again, which is such a weight off my mind, and we're so excited that we had a lovely strong heartbeat and everything seems to be going well. Apart from being tired, I also feel quite well and happy at the moment.

We finally found a car we really liked last evening. It is a bit our of our price-range, but Dh will go and put in an offer later today, and see what they will give gor his in PX, so you never know - nothing ventured.....

And - had an emai ltoday from one of the 'big bosses' in the company to say that the next HR meeting re the redundnacies on Monday was postponed! My boss saw him earlier in the week and went through our complaints and BB was not happy! He is mtg the HR director today and going to 'have words' apparantly! It probably won't do much more than delay the inevitable, but that was one of my goals really. I've since emailed the HR rep and asked if she will still come and meet me as I have 'another HR issue which I wish to discuss'... I bet she'll not come though, so I may have to tell her about the PG by phone or email, which will be a shame as I wanted to see her face!!!!!!!

  • Sorry - me again! Re Breastfeeding - that's a biggie for me, as I really want to but don't know if I will be able. I had a problem when my boobies developed, in that one didn''t at all! and the other was an odd shape. For years I wore bras with special padding, as the NHS wouldn't so anything about it, then eventually I had private surgery about 10 years ago. When I'm a bit further along I will write to the surgeon and ask her what she thinks my chances are of being able to BF, but I expect that I'll just have to wait & see when the time comes. My mum had no breast problems like me, but I think she still had trouble in BFing me, so I was mainly bottle fed.
