It just cost me £60 to have my son recovered after a blow out on the moterway 15 miles from home, as his spare was also flat, with a puncture. (yes his fault, but I pay for the cover to know my family can always get home, no matter what)
They quoted "driver responsibility" when i called to vent my anger. Which I guess also gives them a get out clause for other things too. So buyer beware. You may think that going with a big company is better. But it has now added £60 to the £145 i have already paid them.
I have had cover for 10 years and only used them 5 times max. Im disgusted at the service and attitude.
I will be cancelling my poilcy and find a much cheaper option. Thanks to Martins site I will have all the options available in front of me.
Now thats interesting. What happens if your car isnt supplied with a spare tyre ?
My wifes car only comes with four tyres and a couple of bottles of that puncture repair foam instead of a spare. I believe there are quite a few new cars like that nowadays"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Thanks. I called them and they said they did cover callouts for flat tyres.0 -

I've just made a claim and I'm very impressed with their service. The only thing I would point out is that you need to get your claim in within 14days of the incident. I nearly missed the deadline as the garage doing the work faffed around for a week and then I was ill for a few days.
It's a no-brainer. Go for it!If your outgoings exceed your income, your upkeep will be your downfall.

I believe it is an MoT requirement to have a useable spare tyre. You can't really expect a recovery service to help you if you are driving illegally.
What would be illegal would be to use a spare on the road if it were too low on tread, incorrectly inflated, etc.
(Note to self: check condition of my spare tyre at regular intervals!)0 -
Does anyone know of cheap breakdown cover which includes home start. My car is a 1994 reg. I know I can get cover through Autoaid or Firstcall but did not know if anyone would recommend either of these or know of another company I could get cover through. My current provider (Direct Line) are going to charge me £199.98 (which includes the charge for paying monthly) as I used them a couple of times last year. If the policy is cheap enough I don't mind paying it in full in one go. Any help would be appreciated as I'm not very good when it comes to arranging these things.Did owe £9,951.96

I was looking for full service cover for myself & girlfriend (who I have lived with for 10 years).
Cheapest cover for person (not vehicle) seems to be GEM recovery RECLAIM at £72 total.
As AutoAid do not provide joint cover for couples who are not married (which feels like discrimination to me! ), it would still work out cheaper for me to get an individual policy & for my girlfriend to get one! Total "FAMILY" outlay £64!0 -
I am about to arrange car recovery with Autoaid but before I do need to checkout European cover for our annual holiday. Anyone know of cheap but good single trip European cover for 13 days?0
