hi I've had a slow cooker for years love making all the normal stuff stew etc. I noticed a lot of people make lasagna and was wondering if someone could give me a recipe as my cooker is on the blink and it's a perfect time to try one in the SC without the family thinking I'm nuts.
    Thanks in advance

    It's very easy :-)

Here are a couple of recipes I've used, both of which have worked very well:

    Crockpot Lasagna

And a vegetarian one (this one is very good - even the meat-lovers in my family went back for more):

    Slow Cooker Vegetarian Lasagna

(edit to add: the "vegetarian crumbles" that recipe asks for - use soy-mince or quorn or something similar - works fine)

You could adapt just about any lasagna recipe - just make sure you put a thin layer of sauce to cover the bottom of the slow cooker, then add the first layer of lasagne sheets - you'll have to break some of them up to fit the shape of the pot, but don't worry, because once they soften, nobody will notice the difference. Then add the other layers just as you usually would. Don't make it too watery, because you don't lose the moisture in the slow-cooker.

For the first few hours the top layer of pasta will sit there looking for all the world like it's doing nothing, as if it's not going to work - but it will, have faith! In the last hour or so, the top will start to look soft and melty and delicious.

There are different styles of lasagna - I always make the thicker style with ricotta etc, rather than the kind with white sauce, which I find too watery - but I think either would work fine in the slow-cooker.

Yesterday I threw the "whoppsie" veg in the Sc - along with some water and stock powder. Towards the end I added some milk (don't know why just thought it would make a better background than plain water) and some diced roast chicken that was left over.

Today I ate the most wonderful (and almost cost free) soup I have had for some time. I am also planning to freeze some (without much liquid) and add a breadcrumb and cheese topping - a vegetable bake if you like.

    I love my SC

Pink advised to cook the carcass first in the over - gets more flvour out? Then I just put in SC with loads of water, a few bay leafs, parsely if you have it, what ever veg is going. You can put peelings etc in with stock. What i did was put one carrot and leek and celery in. AFter stock is done, drain and i blended the veg and put back in with the strained stock. Then add "soup materials" and yuo already havea nice bit of thickness for the stock with pureed veg - plus the flavours from them. HTH

  • ok just had my dinner there-stripped the carcass and put in water cover the carcass with:
onions (one with cloves on it)
    sweetcorn(left from dinner)
    garlic
    2 bay leaves
    peppercorns
    dash of cumin(dunno why)
    3 chillis(needed using)

tbh i just winged it in and i prob wont like it but hoping my mum and dad will and theyl be amazed by my cooking skills!!!

its on low now so i'll leave it for a few hours and see what happens!!
