penguine/fernliebee have you found a big tub of almond butter where you buy your peanut butter?

Sadly no -- only small expensive jars of almond butter! In some health food stores in the US you can grind your own which works out much cheaper. I wish that was available here!
  • I might be totally on the wrong track here but I think you can just make your own nut butters. Peanut butter is just peanuts that have been milled a lot so I'm thinking just stick a load of nuts in a food processor and blend for ages (maybe soak them first?).

I've just had a quick look online and someone suggested roasting them slightly first and processing while still warm and they warn it takes a while but i think it might be worth it!

May have a go tomorrow. Will report back if any experiments are successful (or if i break my processor and get minced nuts everywhere:rotfl:).

Hey everyone today I'm here to recommend... SIMPLY WASHING!
    http://www.simplywashing.com/
After discovering that ecover aren't vegan I looked for another wash powder to use!
I posted the link to simply washing after I found it and then decided before buying it I would go true mse style and request a sample :D
The next day I got a reply saying they would be happy to send me one... Lovely people!!!
So they sent me two little boxes enough for two loads each clothes & dishes.
I used the wash powder and all I can say is that I'm never going to look back now I thought that ecover was great these are fantastic!!!
I'm going to put an order in next payday.
I've worked out that if I buy 6 boxes then I get two free plus the 10% off it works out at £31.27.
So if there is 30 washes in each box then that is a total of 240 washes!!!
Working out at around 13p a wash! Great! Around 4p cheaper per wash than what I was paying for ecover!:D

Now I'm not lucky enough to own a dishwasher... though I wish I did!
I passed these on to my mum who promptly filled her dishwasher (mainly because I was visiting and she had to use extra pans etc :D ) but anyway she washed away and out came lovely clean sparkling dishes yey!
She normally uses finish - naughty mummy!
But after I worked out for her that if she takes advantage of the offer on their website and buys bulk they will be cheaper - as it's free delivery she agreed that she would much rather use them so I purchased them for her (using her card haha).

OK enough about simply washing... but seriously try them ;)

    Right...

Teria Hey welcome to the thread looking forward to any tips recipes etc you have.

    Twinks Happy (belated) birthday.

JOY Ha seriously maybe not a thread as there could be a bit too much blood and gore for mse! BUT I might blog it??

    Over and out xxx

    CRUMPETS

    12 fl oz/350ml soya milk
    12fl oz/350ml water
    1lb/450g plain flour
    1 tsp sugar
1 sachet fast-action yeast (I used 1 tsp of the Doves Farm yeast in the orange packet)
    1 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp bicarb
    sunflower oil

Put milk and water in a pan and heat until just warm (or had warm water to the milk to warm it) Mix flour, sugar and yeast in a bowl. Make a well in the centre and gradually add the warmed liquid (it will be quite a loose batter). Beat until smooth. Leave to stand for 11/2 to 2 hours or until doubled in size. Beat in the salt and bicarb and set aside for 10 minutes. Heat a large frying pan or griddle and brush lightly with oil. Place 4 3"/8cm greased metal rings on the griddle. Fill each one (I used 2 tbs of batter) Cook over a medium heat for 7-8 minutes or until set, then remove the rings and cook for a further 2-3 minutes. I greased the rings each time (after the first ones I did where I forgot and the batter stuck )

I rushed in like a mad thing and added the salt and bicarb at the beginning, but they still worked out fine. Also I didn't read the full cooking instructions, so removed the rings before the top was set, and my crumpets came out a funny shape because the wet batter on the top ran! :rotfl:. They don't have (or at least mine didn't) the holes in the top, but they taste like crumpets, only nicer (and much cheaper) than the bought ones. This quantity made 15. The rings I used were the Cooks Aid ones which have a little handle on them which folds down when you aren't using them.

As you can see I tend to 'rush in' and do things without reading properly :rotfl:

Has anyone had this for a while and been using it?

I have a copy of Vegan with a Vengeance, but I don't particularly like the style and the way it's written.

I tend to struggle with American cookbooks as they spell everything incorrectly and call most ingredients by the wrong name...lol:D

I usually use the interweb for recipes/inspiration and then mess around with them until I'm happy.
This usually takes a while, as I like things to be right and the thought of serving up something sub-stand to Mrs OWEI fills me with dread...

I keep notes of all my ingredients, which I type up when I'm happy.
Expect to see my book in the shops in about 20-odd years!

I will try and post some more of my recipes as and when...

Can anyone recommend a decent Chinese Vegan cookbook - preferably one that doesn't use loads of ingredients that are not freely available?

    Cheers!

[STRIKE]EDIT *** I have since looked at the ingredients of sugar bears and they contain beeswax... I dont think that is vegan? so others may contain non vegan ingredients.[/STRIKE]

Maybe I was wrong  maybe my eyes deceived me?
    Or they changed it:rotfl: ???
