Ooh! I'm going to the vegan fayre in Brighton, with my little baba, and some friends! I'm excited as it's sponsored by redwoods and hoping for some yummy freebies!

When I came to make my pancakes earlier I found I'd run out of soya flour (I use the Vegan Society recipe) so I thought I'd just use plain flour, a bit of oil and soya milk, and they came out fine! I've been in the kitchen all day actually. Lunchtime the children wanted Scotch pancakes, so I made 25 and none of them made it to the freezer. Then I made some crumpets (I've had the recipe for more years than I care to remember and actually got round to making them today :-) ) They were yummy (I had to put some in the freezer before they all got devoured). Then I made a bunloaf, then dinner, then more pancakes!!!

original source do shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, bubblebath and are available in home bargains, saver, tescos etc. They are usually about 99p-1.97. Tesco's have a offer on at the moment 2 for £3. There is also chocolate scented ones, not tried them thought, would make me want chocolate!

    Will add more later..

I love original source too, but unfortunately, they are owned by Cussons, who do test on animals. I'm fairly sure all the co op range are vegan, but the vegan soc has just brought out a new animal free shopper.

BTW, you're quite safe, the OS chocolate shower cream doesn't smell very chocolatey - much to my 5 yr old daughter's disappointment!!
  • Hello again all,

Have just spent ages reading through all the amazing tips and vegan toiletries that have been posted while i've been absent. It was my birthday on Monday (I have now reached the grand old age of 24:rotfl: ) and so I had a long weekend off work. My parents came to visit and I had a big hamper of vegan treats as well as a lovely carrot cake;) .

I cooked vegetable curry and tofu scramble and we even managed to go out for dinner (Wagamama's are very helpful if you want to swap egg noodles for rice noodles etc).

I got lots of lovely presents including these cookbooks:

    The Veganomicon
Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World
    How it all vegan
    The Vegan Family Cookbook

So I shall never be short of a recipe again! I also got a icing kit (for my vegan cupcake making) and a spice/coffee grinder (and some star trek models which aren't really relevant to veganism but totally kick !!!).

I made vegan pancakes yesterday (from a recipe in vegan with a vengeance) and they were totally yummy!:T Hope you all had delicious pancake days and I'll be back again soon with some recipes or something geeksome. :D

I went to the Co op today and got a few cleaning products which were all around 98p and their own toothpaste which was also around that price, they all have the BAUV mark on them . Just been checking in the new Animal free shopper and the only toiletry it mentions for co op is Liquid shower premium Body wash - Refreshing, I couldnt find any mention of anything else including cleaning products so now Im confused.

  • Hi suep, do take care with Co-op products. Even though most products have the BUAV approved sign some items still contain animal ingredients eg. perfumed clothes conditioner. It will say on specifically 'no animal ingredients' if it's totally vegan in a little box with a green V. I only ever use Co-op ecological clothes wash and fabric conditioner, their dishwashing tabs and washing up liquid and also their ecological all purpose cleaner is buav approved and also contains no animal ingredients. Hope that helps.

lol sparkle im in the same boat didn't want to say as like you say...TMI!

Ok joy lets take the mooncup challenge lol make sure you update your signature (haha).
BTW as you might of guessed i'm on atm so next month.

Lol, sorry for late reply - what a difference going back to work makes, haven't had the chance to log in until now!!

That mooncup stuff has made me:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: we're in period sync!!!
I've had gynae issues for ages and ages now and have had to come off tampons now and again. So, yes, let's high five and do it next month! :beer:We can even start our own thread, lol - not man's first steps on the moon, but women's first steps on mooncups....

suep - I'll only post the sweetcorn chowder if you take up the challenge too!!! Only joking, it's courtesy of twinkle_star on post #82 - I found it was really tasty and something you can tweak to your own needs.

twinkle-star - belated happy birthday wishes! Wow 24.....seems so young and I'm 29!! Am very envious of your vegan-related bday pressies and will pass the list on to my family when it comes round to my one.

Can't go to Vegan Brighton Fayre  - friend's bday! You should all have a great big Money Saver get together!

I made cup cakes on Tuesday but without measuring cups (the recipe's American), I was a bit cack-handed with it but they turned out pretty well considering baking isn't my strong point; when get my hands on recepie I'll psiot it but I'm sure it's from a website mentioned in early posts....last week's cake (O.W.E.I's post #127) was very very yum and a hit with a long-term vegan friend but I'm tempted to use yesterday's mix and add cocoa powder to make a less crumble chocolate cake - I guess it all depends on what mood you're in and what texture you fancy. Alternatively, last week's choc cake could be good in muffin cases.....oh, the choice.

Sadly I don't think I'm going to get round to more baking for a while as 1) the MIL is back and cooking in her kitchen just is a no-go as I make a lot of mess and have eyes boring into the back of me 2) as I'm back to work after op, less time on hands. However, the house is coming along, so should have my own kitchen within the next month or so, and you won't be able to stop me!

It's funny B12 should get a mention as my OH's just panicked that I don't get enough.......it's a shame as he was sure I had everything under control, but when under questioning from his mum about how I get bits and bobs, my mind went blank and I just blurted 'plant foods'. Now I've just had to remind him I have fortified soya milk and cereals, and the good old H&B vegan supplement. Think I've got away with it, but I just sounded like a kid who was backpeddaling.

sparklewing - I've tried Divine and prefer it to Green and Blacks. I'd rather buy strictly vegan chocolate but sometimes when you're in the supermarket and you need a fix, I think you have to make a decision.

thriftlady - the day I found Meridian's almond butter (and Swedish Glace) I thought I'd gone to heaven, please please try it! Shame it's never on offer or cheaper than the £2-odd but I do only get it as a treat to have on rice cakes. penguine/fernliebee have you found a big tub of almond butter where you buy your peanut butter? Murrell do you think your method would work with almonds?

On a tangent, I'm a member of Costco (similar to Macro if you haven't got one in your area) and haven't shopped there since becoming vegan. Has anyone else found any of these kinds of wholesalers useful when it comes to bulk-buying some basics, or is buying from ethnic and more ethical stores still the way to go?

Loving reading everyone's updates, thanks again twinkle_star from bringing us all together, it's giving good vibes ;)
