Just so people know I took the e-mail thats mentioned into asda, they said no and then called the manager. He read the e-mail and said he did not know how I got it but it was completely wrong. He then rang head office while I was there and they said that they would look into this as staff have been told the policy change and the new e-mail has been typed to send out. Thanks for any help and advice given

Is that the change in November (have to buy it) or a brand new change (back to don't have to buy it)?AKA: PC

Some stores don't, due to previous abuse which has lost them money. But most Tesco will take these (and if you were buying the product you could have bought it & used the coupon anywhere that stocks it really).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I've just had a look through the thread and noted the different experiences of Tesco shoppers store to store.
I would very much appreciate it if someone could please tell me where I can find out what the current Official Tesco Policy is on using Money off coupons.
Thank you :A
I work in one of the flagship stores and ever since i have worked there we have been told that the policy (for the last 3 years) has been that you can either accept 30% or £5 of coupons in a transaction, whichever is less, and you can only accept one of the coupons if you have not bought the product.
I must ask that those who go to a 'young looking' cashier, such as myself, that you dont do so purely because they will scan more, as if they get caught allowing more coupons they will face disciplinary action. In the eyes of managers, we have all been briefed on coupon use and if you arent sure you should ask a manager. Also, if you repeatedly go into our tesco using many coupons in the same day, then a lot of the ime you could be banned from the shop for fraud, so people who do this need to be careful. Don't have a go at the cashier either, as they are only doing their jobs. On rare occasions people even argue with the manager, I also dont advise that as you could be taken to security.0 -

First of all, many thanks for posting some friendly advice from a Tesco employee - and I agree with your warning about not using the same coupons again in the same day (in the same store).
But sadly, I am not surprised people 'argue' with the manager if your store didn't read the official policy when it was sent out to stores in June 2007 (over 18 months ago!)...
The official policy has no '30% or £5 of coupons' restriction and should have overridden your store's policy from June 2007 onwards. The information was clearly set out in a CSM Daily update - but many store missed it or didn't realise what it meant & forgot about it. I believe there was another update again in December 2008 reiterating the 'no limit, one of each' policy (posted by Hales on this board somewhere).
Janina79,your question is a difficult one because some stores have no idea that their own store policy isn't correct if they missed the official policy update in June 2007. But I hope you are lucky because some stores are fine.
You will not find the policy in writing - unless your store has it written in a book at the CS desk or at the tills. Thank goodness, couponing without buying the items would soon be stopped if it were widely publicised. Shhhh, we should be fine as I am sure no-one else will read this...
You could start by strolling up to the CS desk -when you have at least 30 minutes to spare - and asking a leading question like 'could you let me know if your store accepts money off coupons as per the national coupon policy please?' Plan your wording carefully and don't just ask what their coupon policy is, whatever you do!
If your store is a small one like a Metro then you may have your work cut out - as the chances are they won't know or might say 'you can use one coupon'. Which is wrong but a common misreading of the official policy.
But don't give up, keep the query at your own store level, referring up the line there as necessary. Stay polite of course, and be confident you are doing nothing wrong (whatever some staff may say). Be prepared to show them your coupons and state what you know to be the policy, which you know 'from a friend who works for Tesco' (or 'from the internet' if you want to make it a more interesting discussion!).
I don't recommend emailing/phoning Dundee (Dundee are not Tesco Head Office, they are just a call centre anyway). If you do, you may well get the wrong answer and would just be flagging up 'yet another query about coupons' (which gets their back up sometimes, depending on who you speak to!). Dundee were never sent the CSM Daily update in 2007 as they don't get the same info as stores get. Silly innit?
Oh, and finally there are some stores who have introduced a restriction in the full knowledge of the national policy (e.g. some stores won't take internet prints). If that's the case for you then you won't be able to change things. But the post by angel4romabove is more typical, showing a store which has a restriction and have no idea that things changed 18 months ago.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Just to let you all know, I spent Thurs afternoon printing off as many vouchers as I could from the voucher thread. Gave them to my missus this morning as she went to the local Tesco. She wasnt happy, as she thought she would get turned down - a coupon for Nicorette and one for dog food - we have never smoked and do not own a dog!! Anyway, all coupons accepted, £4.80 off the bill, happy days! Anyone know where else I can get coupons from apart from the voucher thread on this site? I'm hooked!!!0

Interesting story regarding the use of coupons:

I've been handing over a coupon for something I've not bought since reading you could do this in Tesco on this website. I went into my local Tesco today & as usual, handed over a coupon, which was accepted. However, I had to go back in later as I'd forgotten something, & this time the cashier said that they couldn't accept coupons for something you've not bought. Seems a change of policy has taken place between my two visits - only a couple of hours apart. Has anyone else found this?0
