I found some DK machine washable wool in B&M for 79p
If you have a problem finding it in the shop, it’s in the TOY section,
as it is with the childrens crafting things !
here’s the link to find store locations

    Hi everyone

F1widow, sorry to hear about your break-in - you must have been terrified.
Maytaurus, good to see you back.

Fraid I'm after help again! I have knitted a hedgehog (first ever knitted triangle!) and I love him already even though he is still flat! I have never stuffed anything (except the Sunday roast!) and wondered if anyone could provide some general pointers - do I need to do the dreaded French knot eyes before or after stuffing for example  . Really enjoyed knitting the little fella but the stuffing is putting me of creating an "array" of hedgehogs - thankyou maytaurus for correct word!
hope everyone is having a better week x
  • Hi K2tog

I always put faces on after stuffing as I can't always gauge where eyes etc should be. If you start sewing up the narrow end first, then stuff it and then sew through the stuffing to the eye places, you will be able to place them okay and leave the ends in the stuffing. I use the stuffing to sew the ends into (hope you get what I am saying...). Then sew and stuff the rest. I also oversew a couple of times at the end of the seam and then plunge my needle through the toy to come out a long way up, then cut the thread flush, to make sure the seam doesn't come unravelled.

I haven't a clue how to do french knots so I can't help you there.

You'll love seeing your hedgehog come to life :D
    :D Charity stuff - 3 buntings, 1 angel pocket, 2 mini teds, 2 baby hats, 2 squares, 3 smoothie hats, 3 sleeping bags, 1 aaron square, 4 boobs:D

Hi all - very early for me again! I'm on cloud nine at the moment because I have some news that I received a few weeks ago but was sworn to secrecy until now. Some of you may remember that my DS2 married his lovely fiance last August - they have just emailed me the scan of their first baby, due in August this year! I've been longing to tell everyone but DIL2 wanted to wait until her first scan; that was done yesterday so now it's official and I can hardly wait! My needles and hooks will be working overtime from now on!

Anyway, back down to earth! Thanks to you all for your latest totals.

Maytaurus - I think I've put you down for 4 hats but it's two, isn't it? I'll wait until you confirm before I alter the list. Thanks for the link about B&M stores but, sadly, I don't have one anywhere near me! I'm sure others will be able to take advantage of the offer. Loved that picture, by the way!

K2tog - It'sloopylisa's instructions for sewing up the hedgehogs are excellent! Thanks, Lisa! I know there's a link somewhere to how to do French knots - when I've updated, I'll have a look and post it here.

I've started another hedgehog - I can see they're going to become addictive! It's the sort of pattern that you only need to follow once or twice before you can knit them through memory. I'm going to make them in lots of different colours. My first was pinks and purples, the latest one is a caramel flavour. Thanks, Shaz - it's one of the most rewarding things I've knitted!

Shez - I've sewn up all the teddies and 'eyed' about half the chicks - if you don't mind, I think I'll send them all in one parcel towards the end of the week. Hope that's OK?

Well, I shall update, then go and look for the French knot instructions.

Hope you all have a good day.

    KathyXX
