Does anyone else stick to opinions in writing theirs and leaves out the facts specs, ingredients, etc. (which I feel you can get from the manufacturer/retailer website)?
I have done 6 reviews and just stick to opinion, very few facts at all - Its like writing for the Daily Mail:D But that does mean that my reviews tend to be quite short in comparison to others.
Looking back at the few I have done I can already see where some are a bit weak, mental note must alter two spelling mistakes tonight.
I was wondering for those experienced is the reviewing results any guide to whether a review may be deemed inadequate. I know it isnt officially but unoffically if you are getting lots of VU is that a pointer to your reviewing being good enough? I am asking because even though my reviews might be a bit short they are getting lots of VU.
I suppose I am looking for some reassurance:o
Oh and 2nd question, people seem very generous with their reviews. What kind of stats should people be looking at getting, eg
VU 33%
U 33%
SU 33%
NU !%
Would seem fairly weak to me, is this right?Unsecured Debt [STRIKE]11,000 ish [/STRIKE]Feb 08 ok honestly more or less 12,000 and no more Credit available

I think you need to be very careful about reading too much into ratings. In an ideal world you'd have a mix of the three upper ratings, tending towards the top BUT dooyoo is far from ideal. There are lots of people who rate without reading (and can get chucked off for doing so), who look at length and pick a rate, or who just automatically rate VU in the hope that they'll get rated back. Heck, I read a completely incomprehensible review today (unintelligible English) which someone rated as VU... it was astonishing!
You'll know if you are writing good stuff. Hand on heart - is it your work; is it more than 150 words of opinion (not including lists and titles etc) - if so you'll be fine.
If in doubt, send a PM to a guide or other member who you think is producing good stuff and ask them what they think. We'll be candid and help you - there's nothing more satisfying than seeing someone ask for help and then improving!
Hope this helps0 -
Just registered to the site,
LOL, now I'm wondering if I should have bothered, as I'm not sure I can take criticism well, ah well, maybe get enough of it and I'll start to improve
But I'm not going to be hammering the site anyway, I'll throw the odd review in when I think that a product is either good enough to recommend or bad enough to tell people to stay away from
Just wanted to say hello, and thanks for the useful posts throughout this thread, I was a bit worried reading about possible negative comments etc, but feel fairly reassured that any comments will usually be constructive
EDIT: Removed reference to my username, entered in error due to it being stupid o'clock0 -
I joined at the beginning of the year and someone was marking my reviews SU so I messaged her and asked her what she thought was wrong and how i could improve..Her comments were very helpful and I am now getting mostly VU in my reviews0

As long as she was giving general advice and not specifically telling you what to put in reviews, then good on you and her! :beer:0 -
I was wondering if someone would allow me to pm a review I wrote to them so I can get some constructive feedback?
I dont want to give username etc as I dont want to get in trouble so would rather do it away from the site so I'm not getting a read by someone that wouldnt normally search out the review.0 -

Here's a post I've just made over on dididave's "Maximising your earnings on dooyoo" thread:
To add to what dididave has said above, here's some further information and advice which is my personal opinion. Some information has been gained from membership at places like http://www.opinionators.co.uk/index.php and http://www.reviewwritersforum.co.uk where review writers have been swapping opinions and ideas for years.
When writing your reviews, please remember that most people reading your review are not Dooyoo members. Typically the consumer already knows what they want before arriving at sites such as Dooyoo or Ciao, so you don't need to worry about "selling" the product to a "window shopper" (i.e. a Dooyoo member that's reading your review for non-consumer reasons). Referring to other Dooyoo members or other reviews of yours is counter-productive so try, within reason, to keep everything in one review but remember that every review does not need to be standalone because one review does not fit all.
Here's an example: the consumer may already know that they want a Sony Cybershot digital camera, and will already have been to the Sony website where they will have seen photos, read the technical specifications and know the price etc. What consumers expect from Dooyoo reviews... YOUR reviews is something that will confirm their purchasing decision or put them off and go off in search of another model/manufacturer. This consumer will also probably read a few reviews from the same category to get a better idea from a range of reviews. This is why it is important to make your review personal to you... maybe you have clumsy fingers and find it hard to press the buttons on the camera. Tell us this! Maybe you have small hands and find the camera uncomfortable to hold. This is exactly the kind of information that the non-member is looking for. There is no right or wrong way to write any review in terms of content or length and if you have nothing to say about a feature, then there's no need to mention it. If the review is personal to you, then write and post it. It's entirely possible that the content of your camera review will be significantly different to a review I would write of the same camera.
In the same way, don't be put off by lower ratings. This is not a personal attack on you or your writing skills, but should be a reflection of how useful the content of your review is. It's entirely possible that other members do not have the same wants/needs from a product or service and they're more than entitled to rate lower on this basis, in fact it's statistically impossible (or close to it), if people are rating honestly, that any review will receive 100% VU ratings. If someone s gives you a SU rating, it's not necessarily because something is "missing" from your review.
Avoid description... there's no need to explain that the MSE website is green with twelve buttons across the top to access the various aspects of the site or that in order to take a picture, you slide the settings to the left, open the shutter and press the button. It's this descriptive, instruction manual type reviews that are becoming prominent on the site, but they're effectively useless as they don't tell us anything at all.
If you have any questions, ask a guide... here's a list of them. No-one, not even guides, should be telling you what to include in your reviews beyond advising your own personal experience and opinion.
Remember to read around the site. I notice that there's a trend for only reading those that read you. I vehemently disagree with this attitude as it's reactive as opposed to pro-active. Get out there, find the topics on Dooyoo that interest you and read/rate them. Return reads WILL come if members see that you are actively taking part in the site. Don't worry about WHO you're reading, as long as you are reading.
If you do find yourself enjoying Dooyoo, then do consider the sites mentioned above http://www.opinionators.co.uk/index.php and http://www.reviewwritersforum.co.uk because the advice you'll get there is far better than elsewhere PLUS you get a chance to share advice and information with other members. Yes, they're a bit quiet, but it only takes one or two people to start posting and they'll get busy enough!0 -
Quick Q: If I want to review something that hasnt previously reviewed, how do I go about this?

If the product isn;t already listed, you can go into your account and in the options on the left hand side there is a section for Suggestions.
Just fill in the form and wait for Dooyoo to approve the suggestion, they'll email you once its done.Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0
