Don't forget you are dealing with a US based company in this matter, what is courtesy over here may not be relevant over there. No excusing a lack of response though to be honest, less cause for complaint if they tell people why they have not been successful at this time.

The company liaised recently with a few of the government’s back to work schemes aimed at helping people on incapacity benefits / long-term unemployment, back into employment. Perfect opportunity for many, especially lone parents , disabled . I guess there is incentive bonus program for the employer by those schemes. Both sides are winners. They prioritise in this case those with no job at all or have difficulty to find one over those who have already got a job or are easy for them to find one elsewhere because of their experience and qualifications. Of course they can’t disclose that to you. Quantity counts not quality(no offence), they train you anyway. Let’s face it, it’s all about figures, quotas; full or part time, short or long term who cares you will be labelled as employed, perfect for government statistical purposes now that they’re drowning under “fifteen feet of pure white snow” . That’s just a thought, the optimistic view not the dark side of the story.

I didn’t come here to launch an offensive or a rocket to hit TeleTech. If you wants me to do so then you have to pay me so I can launch my career. Hard job to prove someone’s guilty.

It seems some are on drunk status when they post unrealistic figures to back up a drunk status explanation.

Have a peaceful and a quality day.

freeonline -Your post was very interesting, I did not know Teletech had liased with government back to work type schemes- good on Teletech.
However, I am really not sure about your point that they favour those without jobs or would have difficulty in getting jobs due to their lack of experience and qualifications. I am inbound sales with Teletech and have been in sales, either face to face or via telephone, for over ten years now, and at present working as an advertising manager, yet I was offered a job with Teletech. Most of the people on my training course did have some sort of sales experience, either through working in call centres or businesses, however I will acknowledge that there were also a few who were returning to work after a period of absence for whatever reason, but they were actually in the minority. I am sure it is the same for the tech support roles too.

I know Teletech do train you for four weeks, but believe it or not, they do not train you to sell per se, they inform you of the products, company procedures and expectations of the company whose products you will be selling.

I appreciate the links you gave previously. Like yourself, I like to find out about a company before applying, not just to see if they are any good but also as it looks good if you know a bit of the company's background when applying.
I'm sure people don't mean to be defensive, I think it's just because we all hope that it is as good as it is made out to be.

Thanks for all your posts. It helps people like me decide on wether to apply.

I'm not certain it is being defensive-it is merely seeing things from a different perspective........so here's mine :)
I first heard about Teletech when Oliver posted to say he'd found a job that sounded good. To be honest I was sceptical-I don't trust any company-I've worked for several multi-nationals over the years.. Anyway I followed Oliver (and others) via his posts through the recruitment process, training, first pay cheque (on time and correct-always a good sign) and the first weeks "live". I did the research for myself-I spoke to a couple of people who worked for Teletech in the US -I liked the ethos of the company. They treat you like grown-ups. You are expected to be self motivated, I like that-I don't need to work for a company who expect me to follow a script blindly and never use my brain. So I applied.......The first interview went really well-but then I couldn't attend the training course I was invited to as I was on holiday and was told I'd be invited on the next.....and wasn't. I followed up and discovered my available hours had been wrongly transcribed. No big deal-it was put right and I was on a training course within a week. Loads has been written about training-it had good points and bad but was overall a really positive experience-it was interesting though to discover how many people have really poor listening skills-I guess some people respond better to face to face training than mainly audio-I can understand that teletech training would be harder for them.
I started the job-and got GREAT support from my collegues and my teamleader. I've now been with the company nearly six months and it was a really good move -for me.
Could I earn more money elsewhere ? Definitely -but like most people who work for TeleTech that's true-we chose to work for them in the interests of work/life balance. We;re a diverse crowd-some people have kids , some have other responsibilities, mobility issues-but all of my collegues are genuinely nice people and most are really interesting and I've honestly come across no back-biting or !!!!!iness that is common in so many companies.
Ideal job ? There's no such thing-a job that is enjoyable to do and a positive and supportive enviroment-it certainly is.
Google any company of Teletech's size and you can find stories of disaffected employees and courtcases-nothing extraordinary there.

Does the job have prospects for progression? Yes TeleTech like to promote from within
Could I earn more elsewhere-Yes I could but I don't want the hassle of commutting -at this point in my life I want a good work/life balance and work to live not live to work :)
Teletech is NOT for everyone but if you are studying, have a life with other priorities, enjoy been an individual and like dealing with people it's a good fit IMHO

I have worked at multiple call centres doing Customer Service and Technical support at 1st, 2nd & 3rd line. I also did the training for TeleTech but had to quit before going live.

My group was "trained" by Gerard who despite bragging how long he had been a trainer and how "out of touch" he is with the systems we use... had no idea where any of his files were or how to train people. We spent between 50% to 75% of "training" time listening to him trying to sing and being told that training was being cut short because he couldn't be bothered to do more that day.

I am not sure if its company policy but when asked about items like AUX code use for toilet breaks, after-call, etc... he flat-out lied and said anyone using AUX codes (apart from when told too by himself) would be fired on the spot. This (of course) is a complete lie as some trainees found-out after they went live and asked a few superusers.

Dont worry too much about the tests you will take throughout the "course" as trainers like Gerard will delete/change test results constantly and everyone gets a pass regardless of their knowledge/performance. The only thing that really matters is if you can make a customer that you cant help feel happy and not report TeleTech to their client.

In the last 3 weeks on training you will be thrown onto the telephone lines with faulty equipment and will be forced to log out/in constantly to try and fix it. Customers wont be able to hear you. Your told to always follow the CMS, which means you will spend 5-10min doing useless linechecks, etc before giving-up on CMS, "breaking the rules" and telling the customer to turn over their router to read the SSID/Key they wanted.

TeleTech are well known for disregarding the hours you say that you'll be available and forcing you to work whatever hours they decide on - be aware of this.

TeleTech have been sued (and beaten) multiple times for forcing workers to attend work without being paid and only paying for the hours that their workers are taking calls or logged into the phones/soft-phones. Pay does NOT include reading internal documents, training (except during first 3 weeks), keeping upto-date on knowledge/information your expected to know, time your signed into Workbooth before activating yourself as taking calls at start/end of shift, etc. These and more are reasons why TeleTech is against such things as unions and will take measures to fire/not hire/limit workers that belong to a trade union (as also stated in their contract).

I quit the Technical Support role after being told by Gerard (the trainer) to ignore the fact that the customers are getting bad tech-support due to the companies constant technical faults, lack of information & inability to handle even their own IT systems. I was told by him that the only numbers that mattered were how many calls I got through and how fast I could do them, not how many of them resolved customer problems. The only reason I work as Technical Support is to help people though so I instantly tried to leave.

I could not findout who I needed to contact to resign from the company and the trainer refused to tell me as he didnt want me to leave the company so I was forced to email the superuser, recruitment, trainer and anyone else who may have been the person that I needed to notify about my resignation from the company.

I had still not been paid for the 3 weeks training so tried to find out why that was. I contacted multiple TeleTech reps via phone and email. The funniest of these was upon calling the USA 1-800-TELETECH who informed me that they did not have a department named HumanCapital (their own HR dept) and the HR manager I asked for by name did not work there. I had to wait 15 minutes for him to go ask someone else before being transferred to her.

After 3-4 days of being given "number does not exist", "out of service" and teletech machines saying "This number is no longer in use, please check and try again"... I eventually found the person responsible for sending-out payments. I told her how me and another recruit had not been paid yet. She said that they have no record of us and wouldnt pay. I was eventually forced to threaten legal action and stated I would sue them in Small Claims court, listed names of other trainees I had emails for, along with evidence of emails sent by TT trainers, recruitment, etc... she eventually released the 3 weeks worth of pay.

The overall impression I was left with from TT was that they do not care about their agents, clients or the customers that need support. They can not handle their own IT systems and are in no place to be advising anyone else. Their only object is to rip-off clients until the clients find out and take their contracts to another call-centre.

I've now gone back to freelance IT support and recently got a contract to handle IT infrastructure and support for the UK branch of an international organisation. None of their many locations will be using BskyB which TT "support" though :)

  • Hi, this may sound like a stupid question but does TeleTech handle all your TAX and NI before you get paid or is it self employed.

I think this job would fit in well as I am going back into education soon
for a couple of years and well it must be better than working in my local
    Tescos.

Hello to everybody by the way just found this site, its amazing :)
