Fixed rate ending and possible property sale
Next June the fixed rate on my flat ends. My work is relocating out of London to Huntingdon on October 31st 2026, and I am unsure if I want to move with them. I will attempt to find alternative employment in London but am expecting to be unsuccessful. I'm not sure what to do about the mortgage, whether to refix or not? If…

Is a flat in a 4 storey building considered a high rise?
I'm in the process of remortgaging a Help To Buy leasehold flat. We've got a decent mortgage offer from our mortgage advisor and we decided to save time to go with the solicitor firm recommended by our mortgage advisor. Fee was around £800. However, when we sent specific details of our flat to our recommended solicitor…

Any chance of HSBC fixed rate drop before end of 2025?
Hi all, I'm just coming out of a 5 year fix with HSBC at 1.59% - which ends on 31st December. I'm sticking with them and going with a 2 year fix. The rate is currently 3.99% (no fee) and I doubt it will drop further before I need to lock in, right? Should I just go do it now, or is it worth waiting a few more days?

Remortgaging but wife no longer in contact
Hi all, I'm sending this on behalf of a friend who lives in Scotland. Sadly his wife left him in July. His mortgage was up for renewal in July and he thinks he is unable to remortgage because the property is in both their names. He has tried to contact her for the past 6 months but she has broken contact. I wondered if…

Overpayment of Mortgage Debacle with Halifax
Did you know that Halifax Building Society is now not automatically reducing the term of your mortgage if you make overpayments to your mortgage? Yes, that is correct. They now reduce the monthly amount you pay for your mortgage and not automatically reduce the term of your mortgage as most lenders do. In fact you are…

Lifetime Mortgage
I have sold my house subject to contract. I was viewing new houses in an effort to downsize as my current mortgage has £56,000 outstanding, and was going to port a reduced mortgage to the new property. However, my employer has gone into administration and all staff, including myself, have been made redundant with immediate…

Lloyds Bank brings fictional fraud to life?
Lloyds Bank shows characteristics of Great Benefit, the
insurer that never pays, in John Grisham’s novel, The Rainmaker. Except the denial in this case, is denying mathematical
reality, with full support from the FOS. Like Great Benefit, Lloyds Bank are relying on the fact that
the majority will not be able to afford…

Can you use interest from savings to get a mortgage?
Hi everyone I have (or will have) about 350k in savings (150k in ISA, the rest in normal savings, including the proceeds from selling the current house), and I'm looking for a house around 400-500k. My plan is to use as little of a deposit as possible, say 50-100k and keep the rest in savings and use the interest to pay…

Barclays pre-payment balance
Hi, reading through Barclays web pages they say that with certain mortgages early repayments of less than three times the monthly installment go to a pre-payment balance, but it's not clear if the interests are caculated on the difference between the remaining capital and this pre-payment balance. Does anyone have first…

Cost reductions when unemployed
Hello, I'm unemployed and I was wondering why in this country there is zero help. Let me explain, I can't cut the mortgage, I can't cut the council tax, I can't cut the bills, the max I can do is to remove all the hardly gained health insurances I have (~300 pounds monthly), and if I remove them, I won't be able to get…

Does a reportage v remortgage with a drawdown have different rates?
Just trying to line up my ducks based on booking a consultation for a remortgage. My £150k 2yr fix ends early next year BUT I want to pull £200k out on top too. Will they charge a higher rate on the drawdown 'based on what it will be used for'? Say 20% deposit on a holiday home or BTL v buying a car (fast one!) etc, or…

Gambling on bank statements for solicitor but not lender
I’m in the process of applying for a mortgage. The lender has asked for 3 months of bank statements which is fine. Problem is, our solicitor has asked for 6 months. I used to gamble a fair bit, never resulted in any debt, loans, or missed payments. In the last 3 months there isn’t any gambling on my statements, but in the…

How to protect unequal contributions when remortgaging and borrowing extra?
Hi all, Hoping someone can offer some guidance because I’m trying to make sure things are fair for both of us before we remortgage. My partner and I bought our house in July 2023 for £490,000. I didn’t contribute towards the deposit, but I covered the buying fees and I’ve been paying the mortgage on my own for the last 2.5…
