Restriction a
My partner has a restriction a on his title deeds. This was put on just before the death of his wife as they have 3 children and I'm assuming its so that if anything happens to him, that his boys will be entitled to half of the house. There is no mortgage on the house and he's looking to get a small mortgage for home…

Current Account Switch Before Mortgage Application -- Bad Idea?
I'm hoping to get on the housing ladder in the new year, but I'm tempted by First Direct's current account switch offer. I've been with my current bank for 14 years. I'm also tempted to open a Virgin current account so I can take advantage of their 6.5% regular saver. Is this a bad idea as I'll be applying for a mortgage…

Mortgage special condition advice
When we bought our house part of the special conditions of the mortgage was to do some repair work, we have completed most of the work and when we have had someone round for the last part we have been advised "not to bother" as we are planning on selling shortly so to just reduce the asking price if it gets brought up in a…

Home Improvements vs Remortage House Value
Hi, We recently bought a contemporary Scandinavian new-build home on a housing estate, roughly 30 built out of 160 homes. However, only 1 of our house type, the new versions are of a much lower spec. The home are quite unusual, so not to everyone's taste, but we love it. When we purchased the property, it was EPC B, with…

Equity Release: Fair fees and commission?
I'm sorting out Equity Release on behalf of my dad. I've used 2 registered advisors so far, to have some kind of due diligence on my part. (For reference this is to release £100K against a £500K house which has no securities and dad is a fit 80 year old). There's something just a bit "off" about it all - like in years to…

Any lender allow overpayments/underpayments/refund of overpayments
It seems like no lender does anymore more. I would like a mortgage I can overpay, but if needs be draw that overpayment money back out if needs be, it seems I can only see Barclays allow underpayments and thats it? Offset seem non existent or extortionate rates?! Scottish Widdows and First Direct no longer even do offset.…

Average interest rates on two-year fixes are lower than those on five-year fixes for the first time since 2022, while the base rate now sits at 4% following a recent cut by the Bank of England. Longer terms equal better rates?
I’m thinking about the term length when I remortgage to either keep it the same (21 years - if I did this option I would overpay) or reduce to 15years. When I reduced 21 years to 15 on my Barclays app, it reduced 26 offers to 3. I hadn’t realised it would make so much difference

Are all brokers even?
Would a broker get a better deal than what the Halifax are offering me when my current deal ends? One broker has contacted me but they couldn’t offer anything different to what I got direct myself. They still wanted me to go via them (which seemed pointless to have to submit my financial and legal documents again when I…

Before we go and chat with a mortgage adviser next week, I would just like to see if anybody can offer any advice. We are mortgage free, however the daughter is still with us due to her low income.
