Balearics Tourist Tax increase for 2018

Surprised no one has mentioned this yet.

https://majorcadailybulletin.com/news/local/2017/08/31/49071/government-confirms-doubling-the-tourist-tax.html

How many people will this put off ?? Also. Hopefully travel companies will tell people about this and they wont get a nast surprise, like a few have this year.

It's €3 per person per day, less in lower standard accommodation. Account for it when costing the holiday, if it's still good value then book it.

Going elsewhere for the sake of a few pounds is silly.
  • 84 euros if you go for 14 nights for 2 people. To me thats not a few pounds
  • It wouldn't put me off. I'll just factor it in to the cost if the holiday.

It's one way if regulating tourist numbers which is considered necessary.

From a destination perspective you want the bigger spending tourists to be retained, so filtering people by price is a valid mechanism.

They've had these taxes before though. And abolished them due to falling tourist numbers.

As Turkey and Tunisia open up again the Balearic economy may end up suffering.

Most countries tax tourists in one way or another. Unless you get a complete breakdown of what you are paying you'll be unlikely to even realise.

Before the tourist massacre in Tunisia an Exit Tax for tourists had just been introduced. I realise that the tax has been scrubbed, but IF tourism takes off again it could easily be re-introduced.

You need to pay for a Visa to get into Turkey, online for US$20, or double that if you arrive without an e-visa.

    Yes, just supply and demand.

As more or better supply appears elsewhere then they'll,no doubt have to revisit this.

Pragmatism beats dogma in most instances.
