Replacement for Microsoft Money

Hi

Been using Money for around 15+ years. Had some issues when i installed Windows 10 but after amending the registry, managed to get it to work.

I think its time i moved on :)

Looking for a replacement (paid is fine), that will do everything money does plus more, like downloading direct from the banks/credit cards, mobile app etc etc

Any suggestions?

Thanks

  • I love ynab, they have just released a new version which I haven't looked at yet, which does do imports I believe. Even if you don't get it I'd recommend watching their webinars about their 4 steps as their whole concept has helped me a lot.

I'm yet to find a good replacement for Microsoft Money.

I even got the 2004 release running on my work Mac and home Linux computer, so Windows compatibility has never really been an issue for me.

I don't think YNAB lets you import your MS Money data which was one of the main showstopper for me. Also didn't do Investment accounts last time I looked at it. The new pricing scheme would be a further showstopper for me now. I think that for a long-standing MS Money user, YNAB will overall be a big disappointment.

I settled for AceMoney which is almost a carbon copy of MS Money but it is supported software, and importing my existing data was a breeze.

You might also want to have a look at BankTree. Not sure it does import things as nicely as MS Money does.

I use money manager from here http://www.moneymanagerex.org/download

It syncs with multiple mobile such as partners phone. On desktop it has many report types and custom reports can be written by and downloaded from the community. You can write your own if you know SQL and HTML.

I'm also interested in some software/app to record income, expenditure, savings and investments. It must work on a Mac.
Ace Money looks as if it would do the job. Can it download transactions from UK banks?
iBank 5 looks good too. Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

Don't think it can. It's not something I care for so I haven't really investigated it. I know you can manually import any .csv file, and most banks let you create .csv files.
  • Ynab has a 34 day trial so that might help you see if it has the msmoney import function. The new version only came out this week, the classic version I use, which is what they renamed the old version too, you couldn't connect to bank accounts. The new version says you can, but I don't know if that is just american or not, you might need to play with it.

It does have a phone app and sycs using dropbox which I find really useful.

Just be aware, it's pretty much a one-way street. Once you start using another piece of software, you can't easily revert to MS Money if that's what you want to do. You'd have to manually replicate all the transactions you made from the date of using the new software.

I never regretted moving to AceMoney as I prefer using supported software, and getting access to new features and technologies. Mind you, the AceMoney support for iPhone/iPad/iCloud is lacking a bit, to put it mildly. But then, that's not something I would ever have got with MS Money........

After doing some research I'm tempted to try Moneydance. It's a bit expensive (£39.99 in the Mac app store) but has investment tracking which I'd like.
