Easi Claims / Real Time Claims ltd - PLEASE HELP!

Hi all,

I really need some advice here for my grandmother.

Now, she was contacted by a company called Easi Claims on Tuesday, who told her she would be entitled to approx £2500 if she claimed her PPI through them.
After a quite lengthy phone call, the advisor asked her for her card details to take a payment of £240. This is where it proves how daft she can sometimes be, as she gave them the details they asked for.
She was informed that she would receive a further call on Thursday, allowing her time to gather together the information she needed to claim.
Immediately after the phone call had finished with Easi Claims, she called the bank and cancelled her card, as she didn't want to pay the £240 and had realised it was probably just a scam.
The card was stopped, and she rang the company back telling them not to take the money as she wasn't interested.

Fast forward to Thursday - she received no phone call from them, which she took as a sign that they had not taken the money from the bank, and weren't going to proceed.

Fast forward again to today, the £240 has been taken out of her bank account, and she has received paperwork that she needs to fill out and sign so they can claim her PPI for her.

This company also wants to take 25% off the final value of the PPI at the end of the claim. This in itself is extortionate as there are many companies that I know of which only charge 10%.

She received a further phone call from the company yesterday, who told her that they do not trade as Easi Claims, but Real Time Claims ltd, and upon searching for this company on google, I came to their website: https://www.realtimeclaims.co.uk - which has one page only, and that is a complaints page. She asked the man that she spoke to to again cancel the claim and refund her the money, but after he spoke to his manager, he came back, and spent some time convincing her that they definitely had £2500 waiting for her, she just needed to send the forms back, and wait 16 weeks!

Now, when she first told me all of this, my first thought was, how the hell do they know how much she could get when she hasn't given them any loan details, and it was just an initial cold call! But, my grandma is rather gullible, and has unfortunately fallen into their trap.

I can not find anything about these companies on google, and was wondering if anyone has any history dealing with them, and also, if anyone has any tips on how she can have her money refunded and get them to stop contacting her that would be fabulous!

The bank had initially advised her that as the card had been stopped, the company would not be able to take the funds out of the account, but they have done - so she was also ill advised there!

Is there anything she can do?

Or should she just accept she's lost £240 and let them go ahead with the claim just incase she does get any money back?!

I have tried contacting this company today but there is no answer so I presume they are shut, and I will call them again tomorrow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

They dont. It's a random figure plucked from thin air designed to make it sound very attractive.

Not saying this company are committing advance fee fraud but advance fee fraud works on the basis of playing to greed. They give you an eye watering figure to entice you then tell you a smaller amount is only needed to achieve that. Classic scam. Just watch an episode of Hustle.

MoJ tell claims companies not to give unrealistic figures and timescales.
if anyone has any tips on how she can have her money refunded and get them to stop contacting her that would be fabulous!

She is protected under the distance selling rules and has 14 days in which to change her mind. Also, the company are not allowed under MoJ rules to take money from her without sending out the details in writing first.
The bank had initially advised her that as the card had been stopped, the company would not be able to take the funds out of the account, but they have done - so she was also ill advised there!

They wouldnt be able to do it if the transaction was processed after the cancellation. Not before.

She needs to complain to the company. If they dont do anything she can take her complaint to the ministry of justice who regulate these companies.

  • Thanks for taking the time to read my post and replying...

Let me just check i've understood this right...

My grandma needs to write a letter or e-mail of complaint to this company, perhaps outlining the DSR and maybe a few points regarding the MoJ, and they should sort it out, if they don't, then she needs to contact the MoJ?

Also, do you think if we call them tomorrow and mention the DSR and MoJ guidelines, they may be sort of frightened into giving her her money back, as they won't want to get into trouble, and lets be honest, most companies like this try to take advantage of older people as they don't know of or keep up with a lot of the scams out there.

    Thanks again.

P.S Anyone who does read my original post I do apologise as it is rather long!

Shouldnt need to scare them. The contract they sent should contain the cancellation rights information. Just quote it back to them.

  • Thanks... There has been no contract sent out yet, she's received the paperwork to sign (presume giving them permission to get the information about the loans & ppi), but no contract.

    Thanks for all your help!

In the paperwork to sign, is there anything mentioning cancellation rights. They may not be calling the paperwork to sign a contract but using terms like agreement or instruction to act or similar.

pjmd12, you honestly expect us to believe they have never had a complaint? Up to that point I might have believed that you actually used them and wasn't someone just trying to advertise their company.

1st time poster praising the company.... Anyone would think we are naive to believe it is real.

It shows you that they have filled a few forms in and have got authorised. Big deal. Anyone here could get authorised with the MoJ within a couple of weeks if they wanted to. Its no badge of honour.
