Freesat TV

Options
I'm having a TV in my new kitchen, and it will run off Freesat.

I've had a look online for TVs with built-in Freesat, and they seem very large. I'm looking for a small one (preferably 22 or 24 inches).

Does anyone know of any small TVs that have Freesat built in, or will I need to get a separate TV and Freesat box?

I've recently been looking for a domestic freesat tv, to go in a caravan, and haven't found any 'small' ones. You can buy small TVs designed for caravans and motorhomes, which run off a standard 240V supply, though as they're somewhat of a niche/specialised product they tend to be expensive compared to a normal domestic TV.

Search Avtex for an idea of what you could buy and see if you think they're worth it. I think we may end up going down the route of a small TV and separate freesat box.

I bolted my Freesat boxes to the back of my TVs using the bolts intended for wall-mounting brackets. Got a 6" scart cable off ebay to connect to the TV.

So is your TV on a shelf, or did you manage to hang it directly onto the wall using your approach?

Any chance of posting a photo of the back so I can see what you mean?

Unlikely, sorry. Freesat seems to be an 'extra' that you need to pay more for, rather than the 'standard' Freeview, and as such, it's only bigger TVs that'll be offered with it.
The smallest TV seems to be 40":

So the next best option would be a Freesat box, connected to the TV via HDMI. This does give you the advantage that you can be more creative with the placement of the box.

LG have had some 22-24" TV with built in satellite but they don't seem to advertise it, so its a bit of searching and looking. Cello do a TV with FTA satellite so you would need to either note the channel numbers or manually sort them:

Are you certain that your satellite dish has enough outputs to drive this Freesat TV? Do you have cable(s) to the kitchen?

The LG 28MT49S has freesat and freeview plus other features but is 28" Could you not get that in?

Something like this for under £200 it does decode HEVC an upcoming codec but I cannot say for certain whether that will work on the satellite tuner as it lists it only on the freeview and not on the satellite.

LG sets are pretty decent so if you can find one in the required size then those might be preferable.
The prices for the Avtex are too steep to post.

As "A Penny Saved" said, are you intending running this off a satellite dish which is also connected to your main TV? If so, do you have a suitable LNB on your dish to allow enough cable runs?

You might be better advised to save money by buying a Freeview TV and simply install an aerial. The channels offered by both Freeview and Freesat are broadly similar.

I'm not sure that is a safe solution because both the TV and decoder will produce heat which will need to be adequately ventilated. I would expect the lifespans of both pieces of equipment to be significantly reduced by your arrangement.

I would have gone for a NowTV/Roku/... solution, no cables needed just power

hope this is part of the planning stage and not another afterthought as you need cable and power placed for the TV.

what are you doing for sound, most small TV the sound will be potential substandard.

    I wouldn't.

The Freesat box is separated from the back of the TV by stand-off collars on the bolts.

I drilled extra ventilation holes in the part of the box that is now at the top, so heat does not collect inside the Freesat box.
