But I phoned NowBroadband today and was told emphatically that it is still £1 per month and that it doesn't have to be free.

I resigned to PN in August caller display has been free since then, was chargeable a few years ago when I was last with them.

I'm with Virgin Media and a few days ago the phone suddenly started showing caller-id. Didn't know anything about these changes, so it was a pleasant surprise :T

Another rule in place since 1 October 2018 is that all telecoms providers must have ALL THREE of these methods for making a complaint:
- a telephone number (which must start 01, 02, 03 or 080),
- a postal address, AND
- an email address or website contact form.

"How much does it cost? Caller Display is free for all of our customers."
