    TBH for me a 'pint' is increasingly less attractive. There's a real surge in 'craft beer' bars with an immense variety of different beers. These can vary from 2.50 to even 6 or 7 for a glass - 1/2 pint or even 1/3 for the strong end (11%+) but wow a reward in fun interest, excitement.

    So I no longer associate a pint with good beer.. though it can be.. and am happy to get good 'value' like for like rather than worry about the absolute price of a 'generic' pint

    makes sense?

    Had lunch in a local hotel bar in Cumbria.
    Half of Stella 2.20p
    Half of Diet Coke 2.80p!!!!!

    Still can't believe that!

    A pint of mild in a nearby pub £1.08. My 18yo loves the idea of being able to go out on a tenner. Pub is rubbish though!

    My local pub is £3.20 so pretty much OK. Although they've increased the price the past six months, if it goes up again, I can't see myself going in

    Drinking really isn't cheap anymore. I remember where I could take a tenner out, have four pints, game of pool and still have enough for chips on the way home, now you're talking £20 .And they wonder why the pubs are dying ?

    Been to a few more local pubs, and it's never been cheaper than £4.70 a pint.

    About 50p in mine. Perhaps 60p for the more exotic stuff.

    Oooh -- that sounds like a good MSE tip! Do tell us more!


    Is it easy to do? Is it as good as bottled ales from the supermarket? Is there a bit of a learning curve, meaning your first few brews will be undrinkable?


    What kind of technique and ingredients do you use (and where do you get them)? Any tips for cutting costs or ensuring a tasty brew?

    The easy way is to use a kit with all the ingredients included. As with everything, you tend to get what you pay for.

    Yes, it can be as good, or better, than bottled ales from a supermarket.
