My grandad was a gardener by trade and I remember his garden and greenhouse, which you were never allowed in on your own and always smelt of tomato plants. Friday night is Monty Don night in our house, my six year old is allowed to stay up late and watch Gardeners World with Monty, Nigel and Nelly (his two dogs). It’s my mental health support too, apart from when a dog, two cats and a small boy are intent on destroying my hard work! Monty doesn’t have to put up with that :D

Got my bike today! Ordered a helmet and lock yesterday, helmet reduced in sale, £5 off as new customer, free delivery and TCB so saved quite a bit overall. A guy I used to work with does bike servicing on the side so I might ask him how much it would be to give it a once over. Got the local adult education brochure today through the letter box and there is a one day bike maintenance course very close to where I live in October so there’s something to consider.

Was fed up last night so started looking round at properties for sale to ensure my future plans are financially viable which yes they seem to be so that’s good news. The main thing that came up was I really don’t know where I want to live so I think that decision must come first. Lots of time to decide that one but I’m certain it must have a decent sized garden. Re did my targets and fingers crossed with a following wind the Easter 2025 might just happen if I can keep up with it and no financial disasters. Should have have a emergency fund up to £1,000 in July and then I want to get another £1,000 in savings by the end of the year then savings account would buy me a new second car if required before the mortgage has gone. Just keep thinking about how much can go into savings each month once the mortgage has gone and that’s my motivation. That and thinking about a future garden with a summerhouse and greenhouse, veg patch and fruit area:)

Good news about the helmet and lock. You'll be enjoying the freedom of the road and the happy vibes it brings. Am hoping to be MFW about the same time so will keep you company and continue to cheer you on. You are doing so well and the image of your future garden is a real spur to keep going. Keep focusing on those goals :)

The marbles were something I read on Frugal Fairy’s thread. Two jars, marbles to represent mortgage, mine is one for each £500. One jar filled with the marbles to represent what you have already paid, other jar of marbles represents what is left to pay off. Move a marble each time you pay off a chunk of mortgage and you have a visual representation of how far you have come.

Just had an email from Prolific saying they are introducing fee free PayPal payouts when Circle goes. Best get a dreaded pp account and just hope it doesn’t get hacked

    Thank you!

How do you go about making these overpayments without it affecting the term and monthly ££?

Hi Morata, I’ve got my mortgage with my bank so on my online banking it’s set up as another account and I can just transfer money into it from my current account, can’t take any out though. I can make up to 10% of the outstanding balance at the mortgage anniversary as an overpayment without penalty so I think this mortgage year I can overpay by around £6,500 without any charge. Any money I transfer comes off the balance immediately but each month they still take the same direct debit which in effect is reducing the daily interest I pay meaning more of the DD is being used to reduce the balance in addition to the overpayment amount. As the monthly DD is the same by overpaying I’m reducing the end date :)

Well I didn’t get that job but not surprised :(. There will be the one I’m meant to get out there waiting for me :). Waiting for my bike helmet still but have arranged a service on the bike by an ex colleague and he’s even sent me a YouTube video on how to release the brake and quick release the front wheel.

Really need to get July budget sorted out and some decent meal plans done to keep on top of the budget as this month was tight to say the least.

Thanks Jessy. Yes I’m rather philosophical about these things. When I look back over life things have always happened for a reason and this is no different. I always thought I would get the job I’m meant to and I’ve obviously got this new job which I don’t like to make me realise there is life outside my current employer and maybe it’s time to go back full time as my son is only getting bigger. There are plenty of admin jobs out there I can apply for. Saw some fab sounding ones last night but they are 20 miles away and my limit is driving 10 miles each way so I do sometimes have to give myself a stern chat about the logistics. I’m going into work today (unpaid) for a meeting but then going to my old department for a retirement do so that will be nice. The meeting isn’t taxing, just inconvenient although as payday is Friday I’m not shopping today. My boy is at a party on Saturday morning so I will do the shopping while he’s there. Visiting family on Friday (school training day so he’s off and no holiday club provision so I’ve had to take holiday) which will be nice and a bit of a break and adult conversation for me!
