Finally managed to make another payment to my deposit fund. Just under £1300, so I now have 23% of my first target.

Last month felt awful only putting a small amount away due to car insurance/weekend away/other car related costs/buying clothes. It amazing how good it feels get back to saving. I will prepare for these costs for next year so that my savings/bills don't take a hit, and it doesn't break my heart to pay for them out of my house deposit.

I now want to try and find a bit extra each month to make up the 2% deficit of being on a nice round number. Hopefully this month will be a naturally lean month on my outgoings.

Hello all! I would like to join please :)

Fed up of giving money to landlords and letting agents who don't care that we're good tenants who pay on time every month and look after their house and still treat us like c**p!
I am starting small and opened a new year ISA (3%) yesterday with £6.50 quidco cashback, lol. I have an existing ISA which is mostly being used for our wedding next year, but I reckon there will be some left over as we've got a decently cheap venue and we're doing the wedding as MSE as possible :)

I plan to put £130 a month into this ISA as an absolute minimum, but am intending on doing a money-makeover at the weekend so I have a better idea of how much I can afford to save a month and will then up it to that amount. My partner is pretty new to MSE ways but he will be saving a minimum of £100 a month and should be more after the money-makeover.

    The plan:
Money-makeover to see where we can save and how much we can put away each month
Set up standing orders for that amount
I only work 4 days a week at present, so I am going to start looking for casual work on Mondays - anything I earn from that will go straight into deposit fund as we're living fine without it at the moment!
Want to try and save a bit of cash on shopping as I think we spend too much at the moment

Well that's it for now, hope to see you after the weekend. Good luck everyone :)

House Deposit fund at 26/05/11 £6.50;)

I would have thought that the pay day idea would come naturally! :)

I hadn't even planned to start my saving until September when I move back in with my parents, yet after working out what I had after pay-day last month, I put away £500, and today I've just put another £100 into the fund.

Working out your minimum monthly saving, and then setting that up as standing order is the best idea, and then of-course adding anything else you have left as well ;)

    Every penny counts!

    You'd think Jim, you'd think ;)

That's been a problem in the past - I've left it in my current account and let it roll over. The next month "Oh I have extra money this month, I'll spend it on blah blah" Not even lavish things, it just drip feeds away. Well, not any more!
