Well if you are prepared to trust Santander with anything more than a blunt crayon you could have both!

Santander accounts should come with a Government Health Warning.

Just to balance out these doom mongers..I have had a bank account with Abbey/Santander for over 20 years - all trouble free.

The online account and banking app are great - as are the text alerts.

I would have no problem recommending them.

I'd go along with that , have been a customer for 25yrs as have many family members without problems and also would have no problem recommending them.

What they have done is to develop an account that effectively demands ALL your direct debits. So they will get "proper accounts" with this offer.

    Smart.

No, not *all*. You could still use the account selectively for those items which get cashback and/or short term savings.

Personally though, I still wont risk it.

I was looking for an account to use as a joint account for bills to share with my boyfriend, but even with all our bills going through it, we'd make about 35p a month. Not worth it at all. Now, if they could add rent payments...

It says in the piece that the preferred account is available until Sunday and it is still on the website along with the £100 incentive but then in the small print it says incentive only available for accounts opened by 29th Feb - be warned.
    I think....

I wonder if there is scope to find a utility that you could overpay by direct debit and then get the difference back by cheque - only thinking out loud...
    I think....
