Great idea michaels. To get the ball rolling, I can rule out EDF straight off!0

Just to balance out these doom mongers..I have had a bank account with Abbey/Santander for over 20 years - all trouble free.
The online account and banking app are great - as are the text alerts.
I would have no problem recommending them.0 -
I was looking for an account to use as a joint account for bills to share with my boyfriend, but even with all our bills going through it, we'd make about 35p a month. Not worth it at all. Now, if they could add rent payments...
Are you sure you only spend a total of £35 a month on gas/elec/council tax/water/mobile phones/tv/broadband/home phone? If so I would like to know where in the country you live so I can get in on some of the action.
Ooops, forgot about the £2 per month, but £235 per month is still good going.0 -
Sorry thought this was 'moneysavingexpert.com' not 'I'm sad and get a semi from bashing Santander'. Seriously that joke it getting old and customer service is improving. Show me another that gives
1% back on council tax and Water bills
2% back on utilities
3% back on tv and phone packages
1% balances 1k - 2k
2% balances 2k - 3k
3% balances 3k- 20k.

Seriously this thing will save families so much money...0 -
I wonder if there is scope to find a utility that you could overpay by direct debit and then get the difference back by cheque - only thinking out loud...
Simple, I have my Gas/Electric with OVOenergy as it worked out the cheapest deal but I overpay on the estimate as they pay 3% interest on what you haven't used. So I update the meter readings if I used under the expected usage, or leave it if I know that I used more than the estimate.
That way I could profit from both sides.0 -
Seems good for most people with a Santander premier current account. I reckon I would be over £2.00 pm up but would lose the travel insurance.0

It says in the piece that the preferred account is available until Sunday and it is still on the website along with the £100 incentive but then in the small print it says incentive only available for accounts opened by 29th Feb - be warned.
That would be because it got extended until sunday the 4th marchSailmakers wrote: »Sorry thought this was 'moneysavingexpert.com' not 'I'm sad and get a semi from bashing Santander'. Seriously that joke it getting old and customer service is improving. Show me another that gives

I totally agree, people need to get over it and look at the good they are doing. i have banked with Santander since i was a kid as well as my parents, my brother and my granparents and none of us have had more than good things to say about them.
Times are hard for people they are looking at helping people earn money where they can by not doing much. As tesco say every little helps.0 -
A current account paying 3% on balances of £3k-£20k and giving discounts on council/water/utility bills all for £2 per month looks like a no-brainer to me (speaking as a long-term Girobank/A&L/Santander customer who, to date, has not fallen foul of their notorious customer services reputation).
Three questions:
1) Do bill payments have to be by Direct Debit? I prefer standing order for council tax;
2) Is the 3% a permanent rate or a one-year offer? Are they going to lure us in then cut it to 0.5% after a year?
3) If switching from an existing current account can you keep your existing a/c number, debit card etc. ?0 -

Ask them, I don't know.

They could cut it later but it would lose them customers so they may well not, nothing to stop you moving away if they do.
3) If switching from an existing current account can you keep your existing a/c number, debit card etc. ?
No but they can transfer all your standing orders, direct debits and salary for you. You'll receive a new debit card through the post, why would that be a problem. If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.
If you do like it please hit the thanks button.0
