  • I am totally confused & probably just thick as well, but tell me if I am reading this all correctly. I can use my existing sky dish & buy a free to view card, which will enable me to view most channels from then on in for nowt? (I presume I have to cancel sky subscription first?) This would save me going out & buying my own sat? Oh almost forgot to ask, if i cancel sky I would need a new digi box?

My understanding is yes you can cancel and get the free to air channels, which depending on what you watch may be fine. Sadly it would be of little use to me as I like Paramount and Sky One - neither on Freeview or FreeSat
We all evolve - get on with it
  • Thanks mate for your reply. I pay £53 a month for sky plus & multiroom together which is a lot of dosh when I hardly watch the movies etc. I like the sport. Infact the only reason I use the sky is because I cannot get a good reception in town for the main channels 1,2,3 4 & 5 & of course because I like sport.
There must be a cheaper way for me to get what I want.

I got the Digital Satellite Dish & Receiver Set, but i could not get a signal, i have been trying the whole day to get a signal, but no chance, so i just returned the product just now.

In order for me to get a refund, LIDL Manager said that to get a refund for £20 above the staff need to get authorisation from head office. What a bloody joke!!!!

By the way the Digital Satellite Dish & Receiver Set that i got was the last one that a staff member had kept for him/herself in the staff room.

My OH spent all Monday trying to sort it, eventually called in our friendly satellite man to check the kit and he just said keep trying, the kit is fine so today we finally got a picture!

We bought a Lidl satellite the other day, tuned it in with a compass as directed by various sites but cannot get above 34% signal strength and 11% signal quality. Not enough for a picture. Theres no obstruction, its on a flat roof and the nearest tree is 100 yards away. We have tilted it 26 degrees from vertical.
Any ideas, or should we get a refund? We are in Poole on the south coast, by the way.

We got that for two days...now we have a picture so keep trying. Our dish is actually practically vertical, it was when it was a bit diagonal we got nowhere.

Check out the threads for deals from Sky for people threatening to cancel.

But a basic £10 freeview box could do these channells, right?
Certainly channels 4 and 5, provided you can receive freeview where you live.

Not everyone can though - our reception will cease due to trees we can't chop down.

Yes a freeview box could. 4 and 5 are rumoured to be leaving the sky encryption when their contract runs out in 2008 and to go free to air as the BBC and ITV have done. With everybody buying these boxes, sky must be bricking it. Sky would like the public to think the only TV in the sky is SKY. Finally people are waking up to all the free channels that are out there without a sky box. The dishes are not as hard to install as you may think. I did my motorised set up myself. Theres loads of channels out there. If its not free I don't want to watch it.
  • By now, they will all have gone, there were plenty but they always sell quickly.

Our local Lidl sold out 5 minutes after opening, about half of those queueing for the shop to open missed out.
