Every time I speak with my mother I’m angry! I’ve cut down on the amount of times I see her. In fact I can’t remember when I last saw her, but I phone her every other day. I agree with others, reduce the amount of times you ring her and, more importantly, tell her as little as possible. When she said I hear you have lost your job, deny it, say I don't know where you heard that as it's not correct, she's just responding to tittle tattle and although it might be true, she'll know her source is correct. It will also cut the conversation dead and she will not be able to criticise you for anything.
