I'm trying hard to find my mojo, and it is taking me longer to do things for some reason. Partly it's because of the bite on my hand, but secondly I just think it's my whole self going slower due to the change in the weather. I'm trying to keep my self "up", positive and facing the bright lights and the Sun when I can.
I'm trying to be positive about the flow of work, but the drop in cashflow has me slightly worried, and I'm trying to change my mind set. The delay in the curtain and blind order put a huge dent in the months workload, etc
On the plus side there is no pressure at the moment. Maybe that's what's wrong! No pressure probably why I'm slower.
On the home front nothing's happened as I worked late yesterday not getting home until 10.20pm
Tonight I will have to potter about to make sure the basics are done and the washing etc is started as were out for the day on Sunday.

Up early to take DS to work. Pottered and now it's time to go to work myself. DGD slept over at the neighbour's again. So I won't see her now until after work. Strange feeling.
I've loads to do today, which is good.
Hopefully the work is going to come in more regularily now, what I need is for the people to come and collect, and pay.
Staff has a day off so it's my little Saturday Girl today.
Biggest of Mooloo's has resigned in here on MSE, so she may pop up on some forums. It's time for them to unite their finances, face up to what ever the past has left them with, and make sure they set a new budget etc so I suggested the forums here to start with. Along side my mini debt dealing/saving crib sheets!
After all the experience I've had since joining here, I could practically write an e-book!!
    Have a good day everyone.

Another day that didn't go to plan.
The first lesson was cancelled, so I did alterations all day. Gave some wicker baskets to the baguette shop that I had kicking around, so had a free lunch. Just as well as last lesson didn't turn up either, so takings £50 down on what I expected.
Went to see my Mum this afternoon, and a trip to Aldi for food shopping.
Now it's time to put my feet up and have a cup of tea before I start again.

So today we spent at Warwick Castle. Friend and Biggest drove, so no petrol costs. Tickets for 7 of us bought using Kids Pass £101.70 paid last month. We took packed lunches so no spends on that. But we did have a go at Archery! That was £10 for 4 of us as we were able to share out our Arrows rather than pay £3 each. The Princess photographs cost £12.00
The only other spends were DGDs birthday money, she bought a feather pen, and a bow and arrow. For £12.50
So not a cheap event, but it was a birthday treat, it got me time with three other grandchildren too!
Tonight I am cooking chicken Kievs bought at Aldi yesterday and on offer for 99p for two, with a handful of peas each and some frozen chips.
I expect an early night and will catch up on my programmes in the week.
I will also have to do my accounts this week, I have been a bit negligent lately.

I'm going to write my diary and give myself some goals for the rest of the month.
I also forgot to challenge the council on the tax bill so I better do that ASAP or it will be too late.

I am not exactly on a low, but I am finding it harder to stop the worrying.
I do have work, but it is a lot less then needed to keep up the bills etc. Luckily I do have savings in the business account, put by when the summer was good, but even yesterday Staff was worried that work had reduced.
She was also worried that now I'm upstairs working, and the downstairs is laid out to retail, and despite the sign outside people don't realise we do alterations anymore!
I need to work on my media stuff, and advertising etc, but with nothing left in the budget, and my media skills being limited, I am worried and don't really know where to divide my time best.
There are only 9 jobs in for me to tackle today and Thursday.
Before our August break it was rare for their to be less than about 40 jobs on the go.
I know it will come in again, but for obvious cashflow reasons, I would be less worried if it was coming in st a steady pace each day.

Mooloo - can you have a workstation set up downstairs with something half-done on it so it looks like you have just nipped upstairs? It could also double as a demo-station for the machines you sell. And somewhere for you to do small alterations/makes when you need to man the shop (staff breaks/sickness etc)
  • would it also be good to have what green bee said positioned near the window so that people can see when they walk past that the sewing machine is being used to alter

I used to sew downstairs, but got interrupted so much it was necessary for me to move upstairs.
Possibly setting up something with one of the machines as a staged prop may be possible. I'll have a good think.
On the plus side the lady who had cancelled her big order has now reactivated three blinds. So that will give me £250 approx ( less the kits).

Hi Mooloo I think the idea of a staged display may help . I'm also wondering if there is a reasonable profit in making the thermal cooking bags . If so have you ever showcased them in the window . In my small local town which is a fairly wealthy area I have noticed the few local repair and redesign shops are introducing more old style merchandise and focusing on repurposing . I think in the uncertain economic climate people are considering their spends much more and going for maybe alterations and pretty gift type goods . I know a local seamstress is making a lot of christmas gifts from her stash and they are selling like hot cakes .
I think if the cooking bags are financially worth the effort it could be worth putting one in the window and maybe printing off a few leaflets to explain the use and moneysaving aspect of them .
Apologies if you've already tried this . Glad to see you at least got part of the blind order .
    Take care polly

While you are not so busy you could make a batch or two of those Christmas hats that sold so well last year x
