Hi just received this lovely email from easyjet and was wondering if anybody else has been advised this?! We are due to fly out in March and I went on the easyjet website and cant find anything about this?!
Any help would be appreciated - Thanks!
You may have heard that the Chancellor, Gordon Brown, recently announced that Air Passenger Duty (APD) - a tax implemented, controlled and collected by the UK Government - is due to increase on all flights departing from UK airports after the 1st February 2007.
We're very sorry to tell you that unfortunately this affects your booking above.
easyJet was one of many airlines which lobbied the Government hard not to increase the tax on flying. Contrary to what the Chancellor said, we do not believe that increasing APD is an effective environmental tax and is simply a means for the Government to raise additional revenue. However, we have no choice but to implement this tax increase and we must collect the additional tax per departing passenger from you. Please click here to visit easyJet.com and provide the additional payment before 15 January 2007.
If you have a question regarding the increase in APD, please phone our national rate number at 10p per minute (calls from mobiles or other networks may vary) 08712 44 23 66.
We apologise for the need to ask you for the additional payment at this stage, but hope that you appreciate that this is beyond our control.
Your easyJet team.

I recall an interview with an easyjet exec saying they would be 'encouraging' people to pay the new tax; I note the message is 'asking' for an additional payment and does not say what will happen if you don't pay by the 15th January ... I think the onus is on them to provide you with more information in writing as to whether this is a requirement or just what they want you (us) to do.0

Thanks - I know but I'd be scared not to pay incase we lose our bookings but it could add up as in total there is 9 of us flying?!
It doesnt even say what the additional fee is? Must email them and see exactly what the story is.0 -
I got the same email. The quote above may not be full. Unerneath "Your easyJet team" at the bottom of the email it says: "Important Note: when you booked your flight the terms and conditions you accepted did state that if taxes and charges outside of our control were raised before your flight departed, we would have to pass on the cost to you. Failure to make the additional APD payment may result in you not being allowed to take your flight. Click here to view easyJet Terms and Conditions. "0

I'm expecting something similar from US Airways shortly for our flights for our trip to the US in April. Seems like we have no choice but to pay - even though we may not have booked the flights if we had known how much extra we would have to pay. My feeling is that it would be fairer to apply it to new bookings rather than existing ones. After all, when the chancellor puts up duty on wines in the budget we don't have to pay it on wine we have bought but not yet drunk! Or is that the next idea?!0

don't blame the airline, blame the scum that are attempting to run the country.0
