And then, of course, there are the 'scum' who are attempting to pollute the world to death through their love affair with nonsensically-cheap airfares...
ALL airfares should be quadrupled, with immediate effect, to bring them up somewhere close to the going tax rate for other forms of transport.
That might make the 'ooh-look-at-me-I've-bought-a-villa-on-the-Algarve-and-I'm-gonna-fly-there-four-times-a-year' brigade sit up and think of what they're doing to the planet...
... but, knowing what most of them are like, I rather doubt it....
As a road and train user who rarely has enough money to consider holidays of ANY sort, I resent totally subsidising this jolly mob.0 -

How exactly are you subsidising airlines??
The tax has nothing whatsoever to do with the environment. The £5 increase could be used to (much!) more than offset the carbon footprint from each passenger. Do you really think it will be used as such??0 -
i have this problem. i booked with an email which does not exist any more, and don't remember the password. so if an email has been sent i havent received it. i can i revise my booking and check and pay this tax?0

What Easyjet have done is sensible... I have a booking with Jet2 for a flight in Feb. They have sent me the email below which just states they will be taking the £5 straight from my card - can they do this???
Dear Passenger,
Re: Booking reference XXXXXX
On 6 December 2006 the UK Government announced that Air Passenger Duty (APD) was to increase from £5 to £10 per departing passenger on each flight flying from a UK airport from 1 February 2007 onwards.
As you may know, this is a mandatory increase in tax, imposed with virtually no notice by the Government, or consultation with the airline industry. We now have the task of collecting the additional tax from all our passengers flying from a UK airport from 1 February. For ease of reference please find below relevant extracts of Article 4.2 of our General Conditions of Carriage.
As you have a flight on or after this date, in order to avoid congestion and delays at the airport on your day of travel, we are contacting you to advise that in approximately 5 working days time, we will debit the payment card used at the time of your original booking with the amount of £5 per fare paying passenger in respect of the above booking reference. Please be assured no payment fee will be charged.
We may contact you again with a similar notification regarding any later flight bookings you may have during 2007.
Yours sincerely,
Customer Relations

Extract of Article 4.2 Taxes, fees and charges
Any taxes, fees and charges imposed by government or other authority, or by the operator of an airport and in effect on the date of travel, whether imposed directly on the passenger or payable by us on the passenger’s behalf or in respect of the passenger’s carriage, shall be payable by the passenger and are in addition to the published fares. The taxes, fees and charges imposed on air travel are constantly changing and can be imposed after the date of issue of your itinerary/receipt. If there is any subsequent increase in a tax, fee or charge, you will be obliged to pay it.0 -
Im taking a few flights this summer which were booked in Oct of last (its the 31st so this year) should I be expecting to pay?
I oppose the increase but guessing its another tax that HAS to be paid. But surely it should begin for flights booked after Feb 2007 but not if booked before the date.
No easyjet, so hoping BA does the curtosy of allowing us without a problem.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"0 -

B******s to that! You must bear a hell of a mean grudge because you can't afford a holiday... I work f*****g hard so I can get out of this bloody country and I don't care whether you have a grudge or not, it won't stop me going.
£5 per passenger, per flight. That adds up to a s**tload of money and it won't make a bit of difference to the environment.0 -
Hi rallymad
I agree with you 100% we work and save hard all year so we can take our children on holiday, we have just had an email saying they want an extra £30 for our flights, i seriously doubt that all this extra tax will go to help the enviroument but hey im sure gorden will get a few freeby's out of it all. Thats my opinion anyway. Happy New year everyone now im off to check our dinner.0
