This is a truly fantastic product at a great price. 160GB Digital DVD/HDD Recorder. Allows you to record over 200 hours of your favourite films, soaps and reality TV programmes directly onto the integral hard disk drive. It also includes a DVD recorder so you can record straight onto DVD or transfer programmes from the hard disk onto the DVD and a timeshift function so you can play and record at the same time and 'pause' live TV if you want.

TIMESHIFT - WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? When the timeshift function is selected you can press pause at any time and the TV programme you are watching will be instantly paused. This is a very useful function that allows you to answer the phone, pop the kettle on or even fast forward through the advert break, you won't have to miss a second of your favourite programme. Perfect timing!

    Thanks for the post.

Can anyone say HOW good this offer is and what it compares to?

Seems like a fairly good deal to me, although i'm not sure about the branding. For a comparison i paid £199 for a digifusion 40GB freeview box last year. No DVD burner on that one either.

Can't see any info on the tuner.

I would like one with two freeview tuners, so you can record one channel while watching another.

I don't think one exists with twin freeview tuners, hdd and Dvd burning... at least not yet. Note that this machine does not appear to have a built-in freeview tuner at all - i.e. you will need to connect an external freeview tuner to record anything other than standard analogue terrestial telly.
Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.

...and you will need to leave your Freeview box tuned to the channel you record, or program it separately to change channels if you want to record more than one thing, so very inconvenient.

Dont know about the aldi one, but I just got this one from ebuyer @ £240.00

Now,I know people have had problems with ebuyer but I havent, so I cant complain (the laptop I am currently using is from them). This one records both dvd+r and dvd-r which the aldi apparently doesnt. You will have to pay for delivery though (~ £5.00 I think).

PS payed for next day delivery (~£10.00) and it came the very next day - hooray
    Gas doc on the loose

The multi remote with learning function they're advertising for £4.99 looks like a great deal to me, will be snapping one up:).

My dad has just bought one of these recorders - the Aldi one that is - does anyone know if its possible to make it multi-region?

He's going to report back to me and let me know what he thinks - up until now he's just used a VCR and DVD player - he's never had a HDD/DVD recorder before.

Try http://www.area450.com/softwaremods/recorder-r8hpregionhack.html for a free remote control hack - should work, I reckon (as owner of that site ;))
