Medion use different model numbers for different countries, therefore it will be virtually impossible to track it down without knowing the other model numbers. https://www.medion.de is usually a good bet, as the company is based in Germany. Hope that helps....
  • Success I have managed to play a region 1 disc, with help from nother forum. Heres how it was done.
(no recomendation to try it , but it works on mine.)

Power on with no disc in
    Press angle
    Press 1
    Press 2
    Press 3
    Press 4
    Press Source
    Press 0 for multi region
    Press open / close
a region free test only message is displayed and machine locks up for about 30 seconds.

Er, that's exactly the same hack I linked to earlier, the only difference being the message displayed at the end :p

You do need to be quite quick entering these numbers, by the way
  • Sorry Clayts , it's not exactly the same, or maybe its the way it was worded.

Your starts with press the open button

The other one goes straight to the angle button.

So your one was beng conducted with the tray open, when I did it.

I now see that the intention was to open the tray to see if a disc was in ( but I knew there was no disc), and start from there with the tray open.

Even when I tried again, I opened and closed the tray to see if there was a disc and then followed the subsequent instructions starting with press the open button.
I don't think you need to have both instructions "Ensure there is no disc in the tray " and then "press open on the remote" as that is where I went wrong

Either press open, ensure no disc, press close, press angle......

or just ensure no disc is present , angle...

Anyway, i thought I'd let you know where I went wrong in case others fall into the same trap or if you want to change the wording.

Thanks a lot for your help and I got there in the end,
  • Which 'other forum'? Anyone know how to copy a DVD to the hard disk?
You can copy the contents of a DVD made on the machine to the hard drive, but not a 'normal' one - it's not protected or anything like that.

Most, if not all, commercial DVDs are encrypted. That will be why it won't copy them.

  • This one isn't, I wrote it myself.
I'm currently converting it to a divx avi file on the PC to see if that can be imported to the 'box'.

Ah well that's a shame. Paranoid about being sued by Hollywood, they probably just prevent you copying any DVDs - same reason why SuSE Linux prevents its media players opening any DVDs.

For the purposes of backing up my dvd's I use dvd shrink, it disables the dvd copyright protection on dvds. I use this on my pc to burn a backup and use the backup so the original dvd does not get damaged.

Got one of these on Thursday, just transferred a divx film onto hard drive from a DVD only took about 5 minutes, picture quality and sound excellent, however still to try recording from some films on the video recorder and to setup with the freeview box, will reserve judgement until then
