Hi all,
My 3-year old cat went missing 10 days ago overnight. He is neutered and chipped, he doesn't wear a collar.
I have talked to the neighbours, gone around the block with flyers, and have phoned my 2 nearest vets and left my details with them.
Sam had never been out all night before, usually he is inside every night. My OH had gone out for a cigarette early in the morning and not realised that Sam had gone out with him. I noticed he wasn't inside when I woke up in the morning before work, so I went out and around the block calling him, and when I went to work my OH kept the back door open (Sam's entry and exit to the house usually) and called to him from the gardens (front and back) through the day. He went out round the block when I got home. He's devastated that he didn't realise Sam had gone out and stayed out.
I've been round the block since, in daylight and dusk, calling him. All the time I'm home I've had the back door to the house open too. I've put food out every night at the back door, and theres definitely a cat eating it (last night it was at 2.30am but I couldn't see if it was my cat and by the time I opened the door there was no sign of it).
I've been reading up and I wonder if maybe because Sam has always been inside overnight, that he's close by and not coming inside because he's been scared and is "displaced"?
Is putting food out again and keeping the door open a crack while I watch, at around the same time in the morning that I heard the cat
this morning, worth doing?
Anything else I can be doing?
I miss my pusscat
, he's the first cat we've had for over 20 years and I had completely forgotten how much company and affection I get from, and give to, cats.

Call the PDSA or other local animal charities as well as vets, as maybe if a non pet owning person found him, they wouldn't necessarily take him to a local vet.
There are websites (sorry I don't know which ones) that have forums and notice boards where they share lost pet massages, and facebook too.
Try more vets even if they are a bit further afield.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Call the council to see if they've been called to remove any cats. Call the Police (someone may have called to ask what to do).
Local radio can be great about announcements. Facebook - get a photo on and get everyone sharing it. Get photos up in all the local vets and pet shops. What about your supermarkets - do they have boards for local stuff?
Does your microchip cover any "lost cat" stuff?
Hope you find Sam.0 -
You could laminate flyers and attach them to lamp posts in your area, our cat was returned to us this way.
On a less optimistic note, I believe that councils keep records of dead cats found in the road, although I hope that isn't the case.
I hope you find him but cats do go walkabout and find new homes.0 -
Report him missing to the microchip people.
Call every vet in your area. not just the nearest ones. You can even go in and take a poster for them to put up.
Post ad on gumtree, the national missing pets register.
Empty the contents of your vacuum outside somewhere sheltered. if he's lost he can smell his way back home.
Call the council. Sometimes the dog warden deals with this kind of thing and at others you'll need to speak to environmental health/refuse.
When you go out calling him, walk some distance from your house and call him as you walk back towards it. You don't want to be calling him in the wrong direction.
Go door to door and ask people to check their sheds and garages WHILE YOU WAIT! Some people will say they will do it and then sit straight back down to watch TV. Don't be afraid of appearing rude, it won't matter if you find him! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
thanks for all the replies, I have emptied the hoover in the front and back gardens in sheltered spots, but I'll do it again.
I'll take flyers into more vets and phone the council and microchip people too - I guess they'll be closed tomorrow?
We do have a supermarket not far away (walking distance) and theres a pet shop a few roads away, so I'll put flyers in there too.0 -
Sorry to hear your cat is missing
There's lots of useful hints/tips here: http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,305.0.html
A good person to speak to is the postman, he/she will be out everyday and will walk miles so if you can get them to keep an eye out they will cover pretty much every road local to you.
Fingers crossed he's back home soon.0 -
I'm sorry your kitty is missing
.
Are you listed with petlog? They have services to help find your missing pet. We went premium with our two kittens and they inform vets for you within a 30 mile radius. If not you can try this website, http://www.animalsearchuk.co.uk/ which is free. This as well, http://www.nationalpetregister.org/. I think there's a Facebook page for missing pets associated with petlog as well.
I hope you find him soon.I SUPPORT CAT RESCUE! Visit Cat Chat to support cat rescue too.

One of mine gone missing for few days - I was walking late at night and calling her. Finally she appeared in the garden. Must have got lost (did nto have her for long then) and heard me one night.
Felt like an idiot walking round the estate and calling "Chloeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" at like 1 am (when it was quiet and more chance for her to actually hear me) BUT she did come back.
Hope yours get back home soon xxx0 -
Check with neighbours asking them to check in their garages and sheds - my old cat once got locked in a neighbours garage when she went missing for three days (she was lucky that the neighbour stored their cats food in there and she broke in to a bag of dry cat food)!
I hope you find your cat soon!0 -

Missing pet register, you can log the details on there
Hang a blanket or a towel with the cats scent on it on the washing line, cats have an acute sense of smell and its that that sometimes brings them home
My mums cat went missing 3 years ago, its awful, I really do hope you get him back.0
