I've ordered a game with WHSmith 3 weeks ago and they awaiting stock. I want to cancel as I've found it in stock and cheaper elsewhere but I used the 20% off voucher and I don't seem able to cancel online (it does say you can't cancel orders that were placed with a voucher code but this was for 20% off everything!). I cannot email through their online web page contact as it doesn't recognise that I've typed anything. I've now emailed 3 times in the last 5 days but with no reply and I've spent a total of 2 hours on the phone with no answer.
Does anyone know if I can return the game (if it ever comes) to the local store and get a refund - I know some companies can be funny with refunding games (of course I won't open it).
No wonder companies like this are in trouble when they can't even provide a basic service.

I don't believe it!

I think with distance selling regulations you're entitled to return it within seven working days of receiving it.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Unwanted Goods
Your unwanted products can either be returned to a WHSmith High Street store or posted to the returns address provided on the paperwork sent with your order.
PS the above poster is correct also re the Distance Selling Regulations 2000.0 -
Hi Victor, i think the problem with W H Smiths is they are supplied by Entertainment Uk, which has gone belly up along with Woolies.
I've ordered a dvd boxset 2 weeks ago which has'nt arrived, i rang the helpline number on saturday, and the girl said "It may or may not arrive", and if it does'nt i might not even get a refund.
I bought the dvd yesterday in Tesco, as i don't hold out much hope of theirs arriving, or of getting my money back...
Apparently in Smiths its dvds, cds and gaming stuff thats affected...0 -
Don't worry about getting your money back. They do not charge you until they send it. And if they do send it just take it back to a local store and get a refund as the others have said here.
Also can you not cancel online - I wasn't able.I don't believe it!0 -

They have taken the money out of my account, as it was ready to be despatched, apparently the suppliers put a block on all the orders. The lady on the phone said i could return if it arrives, but no guarantees it will even arrive.0 -
Money has also been taken out of my account surely if we have ordered from WHS and they cannot supply the goods they should refund. Have emailed them but not hoping out for a reply.0

I'm having exactly the same problem and this is the response I got from WHSmith:
"Thank you for your email we are sorry for the delay in responding.
Unfortunately at the moment we are experiencing a problem with are entertainment supplier as they are owed by Woolworths, and so are orders as delayed due to this, we are using another supplier that are due to start dispatching are back orders this week. As your item has already been invoiced we can’t cancel it and so you can return it for a refund back to our supplier or to any of our high street stores once you receive.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused

I've been trying to cancel since the 1st but that was unfortunately when they took the money. I've now bought it somewhere else.
Just checked the order status and it's now showing as 'Completed' so I'll be taking it straight back to the store for a refund when it's delivered. Won't be using them online again.
On the OFT site: http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/consumer_leaflets/general/oft334.pdf
it says that an order can be cancelled without reason through the distance selling regulations and that the money must be refunded as soon as possible so I shall be taking this up with them when I go to the store to return it.Getting married: 21/06/12!Current weight loss: 2st!!!0 -

The store staff will be happy to refund, but will have no idea what you are talking about concerning the online side of the company.
You will do far better to email your concerns to the online company.Bad Spellers of the world untie0 -

Don't you think this is a rather rash and harsh decision based on something which ultimately is not WHSmith's fault. I can understand if the poor service was caused by WHSmith's and I do sympathise with your problem.
But unfortunately a lot of stores and not just WHSmiths have been hit by the problem to find a new entertainment supplier due to the administration of Woolworths. Personally I think people need to put a bit of perspective onto the whole situtation and it's probably about time some of them start to show a bit more understanding and a lot more patience.
Oh and by the way, did anyone see the news article on the TV last night about the general public complaining to staff in woolworths that the prices were not low enough. These staff are probably going to be out of a job come the new year. Disgraceful.0 -
It IS WHSmiths fault that the money has been taken from her account and not repaid. Why can't they refund and charge later when they dispatch. Or give you the option of cancelling and getting your money back. Or send an apologetic email even. Or reply to emails (in my case I have sent 5 emails without reply over the last 2 weeks). Or answer the phone.
A bit more understanding and patience? Not likely!I don't believe it!0
