Good moneysavers wouldWhy not do what all good moneysavers do and book separate scheduled flights often with 2 bags each of at least 20kg.
a) find out how much luggage they NEED rather than want
b) then work out the TOTAL cost based on that estimate
They wouldn't automatically say that they "need" 20kg and therefore have to book more expensive flights.
Just for a comparison - a recent 2 week walking trip in Iceland and my clothing (including cold weather walking gear & sleeping bag AND evening clothes AND books) weighed 12.6kg. Even then I came back with unworned clothing.
For Cuba I wouldn't need the cold weather gear & sleeping bag and have done similar trips with 10kg carry-on ONLY and only had to do one wash each week0 -
I cant see the relation between "long haul" and needing more luggage.
If 15kg is ok for a fortnight on the Med, why should you expect more for the Caribbean.Do people wear more or heavier clothes on holiday in Cuba ?
Obviously if you do require more than the allowance then it will cost more per KG than short haul as its going further, so the cost of fuel to carry it will be more.0 -
It's not all long haul Thomas cook flights. I often use Thomas Cook to fly to Calgary and the free checked baggage allowance is 20kg excess baggage is charged at £8 per kilo which is pretty good if you have a lot to take.
"Each passenger in Economy is entitled to 20kg for hold luggage. Passengers booked in Premium/Club are entitled to 30kg of hold luggage. All passengers have a hand luggage entitlement of one piece of 5kg - no more than 5kg per passenger may be carried on board. Any hold luggage in excess of the 20kg or 30kg limits will be charged at £8 per kilo on Thomas Cook flights.":smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -
long haul, are usually bigger planes i.e. say going to Australia, Asia etc.
and usually luggage allowance on flights which i have been on are at least 20kg.
for those who think 15kg is acceptable, fair enough.
i know allowances are going down etc. i used to have 35kg as a single person going to hong kong, but on recent trips it has reduced to 30, 25 and 20; but not 15kg!
In summary, having travelled short and far, different air lines, i don't think I've had 15kg allowance only before; even on a charted flight from birmingham to edingburgh.0 -

wish it were the same price flying out of Orlando Sanford, just come back from a brilliant holiday only to get stung for $22 per kilo overweight (circa £14 depending on exchange rate). Digging around, I`ve found different rates for different destinations with Thomas Cook.0 -
Wait a minute. We have booked with TC to go to Cuba in Nov and the charge for 5 kg extra luggage is £35.00 each. Also booked for 2 weeks. Why would there be a difference?0

Seems like another sneaky way to make more money out of us.
Just looked on their web site & cannot find anything about luggage weight allowances.
I also tried flights only.
This was the only thing that mentioned luggage!

We have booked our wedding in Cuba next year.:T
We have 20kgs each for 3 weeks, including all our wedding attire. As people who have traveled to Cuba before are aware, you really do need to bring all supplies with you (medical and toiletry wise) as not only are these things hard to find but are also mega expensive.
I do think the Thomas Cook are trying to squeeze ever last penny out of us.... We didn't have a choice of Airline as Thomas Cook are the only ones that travel to Cayo Coco.:mad:0 -
