so booked the honeymoon with thomascook gatwick to cuba for 2 weeks, and only 15kg each!!! how rubbish is that?
option: £25/each for 5kg
so that's £50 extra to make it for 20kg each total, crazy!

seems a bit steep, but did you get a good price on the deal?? if so they are obviously tempting people with the holiday, and making up the profits on the extras.
think on though, it's Cuba. how many clothes will you need?
every time i trot away on my hols, i leave the office to my boss shouting: "remember to take half the clothes and twice the cash"

My DH and I are just packing to go away and we have to take walking boots, waterproofs, outdoor clothing, climbing gear, ropes, rock boots, helmets and normal clothes all on 15kg!0

How much is £25 per person as a percentage of the cost of the holiday per person?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

richardw... well most good package holidays cost, say around £1000 each.
so, my reckoning, is that the £25 is another 2.5% of the cost.....
that is extortion, its a rip off, what a con, it's a scam! they shouldn't do this, I'm going to write a letter and complain and never fly with them again..

I think £50 for an extra 5kg each is pretty steep, regardless of what percentage of the total holiday cost that works out to.
We had an option of booking an extra 5kg each to Goa (also long-haul) with Monarch and the total cost is:
£7.98!!!!
First Choice seem to do a standard 20kg on their flights to Cuba.
Don't think there's much you can do about it, other than pay up before you fly, run the risk that you'll be over the limit at check-in and maybe get stung for more than you'd pay to increase your limit or restrict your packing to the 15kg allocation.0 -
as above, most standard flights are 20kg, but not this thomas cook.
going away on honeymoon, so would like to take enough evening shirts etc. and not bother about washing, and would be the same for other half. add in the suitcase, toiletries, sun tan lotion, chargers for electrical applicances it all adds up quickly!0 -
Don't forget that hard-sided suitcases can be 5-7kg by themselves. Make sure that you've got the lightest weight luggage possible. You can also save almost a kilo on your hand luggage by taking something like the Longchamps fold up carry on (which weighs next to nothing) rather than a wheely bag. My OH works for an airline and we've invested in the lightest possible luggage. We've cut about 5kgs off of our average hold luggage weight.
Also check the small-print on your conditions of carriage. You may be able to take "reading material for the flight" (ie your holiday books), cameras etc separate to and on top of your luggage allowances.
Finally, we wear our coats, a jacket, jumper etc onto the plane and carry a big carrier bag so that once we're on we can strip that stuff off and carry it off the other end. If I was taking heavy hiking boots I'd wear them too...Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Why not do what all good moneysavers do and book separate scheduled flights often with 2 bags each of at least 20kg.
I assume you did check before you booked what your luggage allowance would be, if you did, then there realy is nothing to complain about, if you didnt...welll you should have.0 -
thanks
i did check, or was told. so knew, but wanting to book a travel agent holiday all in, there wasn't much option.
but it's a bit poor to offer only as a basic, 15kg on a 2 week long haul.
as about, some suitcases could weigh half that already!
having flown with other travel agent airlines in the past just round europe, like first choice, thomson etc. we were given 20kg. but thomas cook service on this isn't great really0 -
Even if you had the extra 5kg FOC I bet you would still come back with more than 1/4 of your clothes unworn ;0)0
