Once a week would probably be overkill, though it only takes a few seconds. Certainly run it after installing or uninstalling a program. If you only have time to run one scan, run a spyware or antivirus one instead of ccleaner.

Quite often, you would be surprised to what you can find tbh.

I run it frequently, certainly at least daily. I run it just before shutting down the PC and whenever I have spent a long time on the net.

It is best to run it before installing any programs as it will help reduce fragmentation levels of the hard drive.

I wouldn't compare a ccleaner scan to a spyware/AV scan. You are comparing a 20 second scan to clean junk against a scan lasting 15-20 minutes for spyware or hours for av (although performing those scans is sensible when you have time to)

My point was that if you've only got time to set one scan going, security comes first.

depends on what you do with your comp really.
if you watch tv online then run it every single day, your computer stores a lot of cr*p that it doesn't tell you about. if you're not a big net user then once a week should pretty much cover it :)

Highlighted above sentence - lots of MSE members use sites which require tracking - me included - so I personally use CCleaner each time I move from one site to another and as best I can make sure the cookies from past activity are removed - so I agree it does very much depend on what you use your PC for.

I run it about once a week or so, just to get rid of the temporary files associated with surfing the net.

I will run CCleaner registry checker if I've just installed/uninstalled a program though.
