Upset stomach in Egypt????

We have been loads of times and not been ill. I do however avoid rice and chicken. We use anti bac handgel all the time. Antinal is brill and you can get it for kids as well also known as Ambatrol (nifuroxazide) & Nifuroxazide Ercefuryl. Dont pay more than 10le a pack - yes some pharmacies will also try and rip you off. Local peppermint tea helps the digestive system. Also take some rehydration tablets or satchets like Dioralyte as well.0

I got back on Wednesday night and although my guy was sick for one day it was nothing immodium couldnt sort....it's not just the food that makes you sick - make sure you drink loads of water as heat exhaustion will make you sick too.
It was 48 degrees in Luxor while we were there!0 -
Drink lots of water, add extra salt to your food adn take imodium and dehydration powder, I honestly believe that most upset stomaches are caused by dehydration and this can be avoided. I have been to Egypt many times, the first time I got ill as I didn't drink enough and I have never been ill since and nor have my family.
The money is filthy so do watch out for that and the gel stuff as mentioned abouve is great, wet ones are also cool, also watch out when you go from the extreems of the heat outside to the cold of the aircon inside, this can be a bit of a shock to the body, I always have a hot drink if I am feeling really hot as the shock of cold drinks can be harsh.
I have never avoided the salads adn they are delish especially the tomatoes, you are staying in a good hotel, things should be fine and if you go get ill then you are prepaired for it with the imodium, if they don't work then the pharmacy will have something that will0 -
Hi,we've just got back from sharm ( 11 hours ago !!!) This was our 3rd time in the resort and we've had upset stomaches each time, apparently the main cause is that natural Bactria is different to what we are used to.
My advise is to get straight to the pharmacy as soon as you get your first symptoms, this should sort you out within a few hours !! also take some pain killers with you as the cramps can be a bit uncomfortable.
Don't bother with imodium - it won't touch it (I've also been told, although,I don't know if this is correct, that because it works by "dehydrating" the system it can be quite dangerous in extreme heat)
Hope this helps and enjoy your holiday !
ps its very, very hot out thre at the mo0 -
My daughter and I went to Luxor a couple of years ago. She was ill for a couple of days, but I was ill for nearly 4 weeks with a bug in my stomach. I used imodium but it didn't work and had to have treatment when I came home. I also used sanitising gel on my hands the whole time. Several other people on our trip were ill too. I avoided ice and salads, but hadn't thought about rice which a lot of people later said can cause problems.
Glad you had a good trip though0 -
when people compare these conditions to Spain i would have to say this must be the Spain of twenty odd years ago.
reading this i'd avoid there with a barge-pole ....alternatively a corking kit from a wine making shop might come in handy0 -
Hi anyone who can advise!!!
4 of us (2adults and 2 children) are going to Egypt in 3 weeks and although I am REALLY looking forward to it, the amount of people that keep telling us we will end up with a dodgy stomach is starting to worry me!
Does anyone have any experience of this, or any general advice about what precautions to take etc...
We are staying in Sharm El Sheikh , Naama Bay area.
Thanks
I stayed there, I got very very sick, never been so sick in my life, only lasted about 24 hours but god, the lining from my stomach nearly made an appearance, I could bearly move my body was aching so much from the retching, so be very very careful:oSam B0 -
the important thing is as soon as u feel a queasiness or any sort of slight tum problem hit the antinal, dont wait until u are retching or parked on the toilet if u see what i mean
even if i get a small rumble i take the tablets and it never develops into anything
and just a further reminder drink LOTS of water its hot there!!!!

We went to Hurgada in April and I was fine DH had a day of feeling a bit off. I kept out of the full sun as I have fair skin, I drank loads of water but didn't avoid the salads or ice. The food in the hotel was standing around but had covers on it and some things were freshly cooked but I avoided the creamy cake type desserts as they didn't get covered.
Don't worry too much there are loads of pharmacies who can sell you a cheap remedy and you might be lucky.
Have a lovely holiday.0
