ot if it is a gift
I would deal with this by telling the brother that it is against the law to bring back cigarettes for someone else.

Not if they are a gift and not being paid for.

and increases your chances of going to visit him in a hospice and witness the pain of cancer killing him as the pain relieving medication fails to work and the cancer bites into his organs slowly and very painfully killing him.

No, the duty-free concession is strictly for personal use.

    You're wrong mate:

Maderia is in the EU so therefore the cigs are not duty free they are duty paid

They do not have to be for personal use they can be given as gifts you just cant get any money back for them or use them as a payment in kind.

Fella you need to chill the hell out, im not a smoker never have been and probably never will be but where the hell do you get off talking to someone like this, not everyone who smokes ends up with cancer, hell more people die in the UK every year through weight related heart disease than anything else so would you not bring back friends and family back sweets etc from your travels. Its all about free choice if people want to smoke so be it, hell it keeps me in a job and keeps the treasury a tad more boyant, I assume you would happily pay an extra 5 or 10p on the £ on income tax to make up the short fall if everyone stopped smoking?

    More info http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/medical_notes/3243673.stm

"Lung cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world. In the UK, it is the second most-frequently occurring cancer, accounting for 1 in 7 new cases.
Nine in ten of these can be squarely blamed on the pernicious effects of tobacco smoking - and unfortunately the majority of cases cannot be cured."

And as I said the single biggest killer in the UK is:

    http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Healthcare/NationalServiceFrameworks/Coronaryheartdisease/index.htm

heart disease, so tell me do you give your kids/partner any fried food, do you exercise daily, have you ever bought anyone a bar of chocolate, if so you have potentially shortened that persons life, shame on you!!!

Im sure ince mom's brother is over the age of consent and of right mind to make his own decisions and im pretty sure he does'nt live in some cocoon of denial that says that smoking is good for you but hell all the goods things are:

    smoking
    eating
    drinking
    extreme sports
    jiggly business

hell I would rather live my life and go out with a smile on my face knowing that I had lived than worry about everything I put in my mouth etc, as winston churchill once said "its better to live a day on your feet than a lifetime on your knees" ie live as hard and as fast as you want as long as you dont hurt anyone else in the process.
